It's one thing to remain amicable with an ex, but it's another thing entirely to dress up as them for Halloween.
Such is the case for US actress Hilary Duff, who even recruited her husband, Matthew Koma, to construct a costume centred around her former flame, Joel Madden.

Duff was just 16 when she first met Good Charlotte musician Joel Madden - who himself was 25-years-old at the time.
Whilst their age-gap romance was initially seen as quite controversial in tabloid reports at the time, it later became clear that the pair were head over heeds for one another.
They even collaborated on Duff's best-selling album Most Wanted in 2005, leading the world to believe they'd be celebrity power couple for long into the future.
Sadly, however, just a year later, the pair called it quits, with Duff going on to wed singer-songwriter Koma in 2019, and welcoming three beautiful daughters together.

Madden, meanwhile, went on to strike up a relationship with reality star Nicole Richie, with the couple welcoming a son and daughter together.
Naturally, therefore, many fans of the four big-name stars were blindsided this Halloween to see Duff and Koma donning costumes of Madden and his brother Benji for Halloween.
Despite many reckoning that such a tribute would spark an online tirade between the ex couple - it seem to have had the reverse affect.

In fact, not only did Madden seem flattered by the Perfect Man actress' get-up, but his wife Nicole Ritchie heaped praise onto Duff and Koma for their sense of imagination.
Sharing their uncanny get-up on social media, Duff, now 37, and Koma could be seen in a pair of black MDDN caps, matching sunglasses, baggy t-shirts and gold chains, mimicking the musician brothers.
The Lizzie McGuire actress took things to the next level by seemingly painting on a beard, before tagging both Good Charlotte bandmates, as well as Nicole.
The post was even re-shared by The Simple Life star Nicole, who herself wrote, 'Protect @matthewkoma and @hilaryduff at all costs,' alongside two crown emojis, revealing that the foursome had subsequently gone out to dinner to celebrate the spooky move.

This isn't the first time that the A-list squad have 'punked' one another online.
Madden's 44th birthday last year saw Koma sharing a series of snaps together, incorporated one cheeky photo of the musician alongside Duff in 2006.
"It's not even that weird that you dated my wife @joelmadden," he jibed in the caption.

"It just makes me feel closer to you."
Speaking of their close-knit bond, Duff previously revealed on Watch What Happens Live: "We're neighbors. And we actually hang out all the time. I was just in her driveway honking her to come drink wine with us the other day."
She added: "Right when they moved in, for some reason, Matt photoshopped a picture of Joel and Benji in a photo with me on Valentine's Day - 'Happy Valentine's Day, honey.'
"Now they just know that Matt is a big troll and likes to have lots of fun."
