Kevin Bacon had surprising reaction when DNA test revealed his wife was his cousin

Kevin Bacon had surprising reaction when DNA test revealed his wife was his cousin

Kyra Sedgwick found out that she and her husband, Kevin Bacon, were, in fact, related

While tracking her ancestry on Finding Your Roots, Kyra Sedgwick was given the awkward news that her and her husband Kevin Bacon were, in fact, related.

Sedgwick and the X-Men: First Class star first met on the set of the movie, Lemon Sky, in 1988 - later getting married the same year.

The couple also have two children together, singer Travis Bacon, 35, and actor Sosie Bacon, 32.

In 2013, Sedgwick, 58, and Bacon, 66, both appeared on the show to uncover more about their ancestry.

This was when the Kill Your Darlings star was told by host Henry Louis Gates Jr. that she had a famous ninth cousin once removed.

"See. I knew it! I Knew it! I Knew it! I knew it! I knew it!" Sedgwick responded after airing her thoughts that she would unearth a connection to her husband earlier in the show.

When Bacon himself was later told of the connection, she told him: "As long as we're not first cousins, it's fine."

The actor has a parlor game named after him, called 'Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon', which claims that any actor is just six connections away from the Hollywood star because of his huge film career, and Bacon stated that he initially didn't like the concept.

"I was horrified!" he admitted on the On With Mario Lopez podcast. "Because I thought it was really a joke at my expense."

He said he first came across the game after people would come up to tell him that they'd played it: "I heard about it, people would come up to me and say, 'My cousin invented a game about you,' or, 'I’m so hungover, I was playing your game last night'. I had no idea what they were talking about, I was like, 'I think you’ve got the wrong guy'."

However, he later changed his tune about it, continuing: “It’s a beautiful concept that we are connected. That we all, essentially, kind of climbed out of the same swamp.

"It’s fun to be at the forefront of that idea."

Further in the episode, Gates Jr. also told Bacon about his connection to some other stars aside from his wife - and some were pretty huge.

"You and Brad Pitt are 13th cousins twice removed," he told the Footloose star. "You are President Obama share a common ancestor named Anthony Woolhouse. You are 12th cousins, three times removed."

"No kidding. I knew I wasn't getting enough respect," Bacon replied.

And that's not the only person that Bacon has some connection with as Candyman star, Kasi Lemmons, also found out that he was her distant DNA cousin - which led to a fit of laughter from Lemmons.
