Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy issued a statement opening up to fans as her first ever interview since the One Direction singer's tragic death was released.

He was just 31 at the time, and had been staying with his girlfriend, Cassidy, until she decided to leave Argentina before her partner.

She said: “Please bear with me as I share my experience, which I hope will be received with compassion and understanding.”
Speaking to The Sun in the interview, Cassidy opened up about Payne's addiction, explaining that she had supported him 'through thick and thin'.
Calling him the love of her life, she went on to say that she doesn’t believe he took his own life, and is confident that his fall was an ‘accident’.
Of course, many people were devastated over the singer’s death, and were quick to question why Cassidy left him in Argentina.

She admitted that she left to take care of their dog, who was back home in Florida at the time.
She told the outlet: "Love is so optimistic, and you just hope that everything will work out at the end.
"Obviously if I knew, if I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina."

She continued: "I had a responsibility, we had a responsibility. We had our dog and obviously I never, ever thought this event would occur.
"It was a tragic accident and no, I never did think [he might die young]. But, you know, we did have our own separate lives - this wasn’t the first time we have travelled separately.
"I just never thought this would have happened, that it would turn out the way it did."
Cassidy went on to say Liam 'was in such a good headspace when I left Argentina'.
"We were in such a great place, just full of love; he was so happy and positive. And I just can’t even believe the way things truly ended.
“It’s genuinely insane to me how things can just be taken away from you so quickly in life, you never truly know what tomorrow will bring, you never know."
