Lily Allen praised after making sad admission and revealing she’s 'stopped eating'

The singer made her courageous confession on her 'Miss Me?' podcast

Fans of Lily Allen have been commending the star this week for making a brave confession about her toxic eating habits.

Speaking on her Miss Me? podcast this week, the mother-of-two told listeners she often 'forgets to eat' during bouts of bad mental health, but that this is something she's addressing in therapy.

Despite having taken a small step back from the music in 2019 following a self-confessed 'identity crisis', the 39-year-old 'Smile' singer has frequented the headlines more and more in recent years.

In 2020, she and her two daughters, Ethel Mary, 13, Marnie Rose, 11, fled the UK and set up shop in New York, with the musician marrying American actor David Harbour, famed for his role on Stranger Things.

Following a chic Vegas wedding - which ended with a slightly less A-list banquet from In-N-Out burger - Lily appeared to have secured herself a pretty picture-perfect life.

Apparently, however, behind the scenes, the musician was battling a mental health monster - an admission she only made on her podcast this week.

Speaking to listeners, she claimed she rarely felt hungry during her off days, and as such, she often forgot to eat.

Thankfully, though, following a recent rough patch, she sought assistance in the form of therapy.

"Eating has become an issue," Allen explained. "My therapist and I talk about it and she says 'how long has this been going on?'

"And I said, 'well, about three years really'. And she's like, "OK, why haven't you mentioned it before?"

She added: "And it's not because I'm lying about it. It's just because it's not seemed at the top of the list of important things that I need to talk about, but obviously it is."

Lily went on to explain that her ADHD diagnosis has contributed to her mental health struggle, claiming that, at her worst, she struggled to see beyond how she was feeling in a certain day.

"My body and my brain are two very separate things to me. I know a lot of people feel those two things are very connected to each other, but for me it's very different. I spend a lot of time in my head, and not a lot of time thinking about my body."

Despite discussing the benefits of therapy, she confessed, however, that she's 'not in a great place mentally' at the moment.

"I'm not hungry," the 'It's Not Fair' hitmaker explained. "I obviously am hungry, but my body and brain are so disconnected from each other that my body... the messages of hunger are not going through my body to my brain."

As we say, despite being hard to hear, fans have since praised the chart-topper for her brutal honesty on a topic that was previously considered taboo.

When a clip of the podcast was subsequently shared on BBC Sounds, one fan penned: "Thank you for being so honest and open about difficult topics in this episode."

Another added: "Lily tells a great story. I’m always all in. The zinger never disappoints".

"This is beautifully honest from Lily Allen. Miquita Oliver's listening and comment about 'healing the trumatised child within' were fantastic," a third gushed.

A fourth went on: "Wishing you well. Saviour life its beautiful. Keep your glow and above all your sense of humour."

This comes after she faced intense criticism when she admitted to getting rid of her puppy because it 'ate' her passport.
