Lily-Rose Depp has sparked a heated debate after referring to her partner 070 Shake as her 'boyfriend'.
For quite some time now, the Nosferatu star has called the rapper her 'boyfriend' - something she did on an Instagram story back in November which sparked quite the conversation online.
Then, in a recent interview with MTV about the new movie, Depp was asked about a trait she might have in common with her Nosferatu character Ellen.
"Ellen is a lover girl, and I love that she gives Thomas a little locket with her hair in," the interviewer said. "Is there anything that people did back then, like a romantic gesture, that you’re like, 'We need to bring that back! I want to see more of that'?"

Depp then replied: "I think that’s cute, honestly. I have a locket of my boyfriend’s hair, kind of like in the movie.
"I like lockets. I think they’re very romantic."
Some (presumably straight) people were confused by Depp's 'boyfriend' comments once again with one commenter making an effort to clarify the situation, writing: "Guys Lily is dating 070 shake (a girl)."
An Instagram user also wrote: "I meann…Since 070 Shake’s pronouns are she/her, it kinda feels like Lily’s trying a little too hard to frame the relationship in a somewhat heteronormative light… but hey, do you I guess."

Another even went as far as to claim: "Sounds like internalised homophobia to me…"
And a third slammed: "This is kind of weird."
Responding to the initial comment, MTV explained on their TikTok: "As Lily said boyfriend, we’re respecting her terms."

Others, however, were beyond fine with the term Depp referred to her partner with and championed it.
One declared: "The only person who needs to approve or disapprove of this is 070 Shake. If she’s not complaining… then who cares?"
"I love being queer. I love being able to experiment with terms and find what brings me euphoria, especially when it comes from a partner. I'm so grateful to not be boxed in by terms and labels. People’s personal lives/relationships shouldn’t be up for debate," highlighted a second.
A third chimed in: "Honestly I don't really get it and wouldn't use it with my partner - but that's a me thing. And if it's their thing and they're both comfortable with it? You do you, it's your relationship, your choice of words, no one else's problem."

"A girl can be a boyfriend just like how a man can be a wife.... what is new," added another.
And a final social media user echoed: "No matter who I'm dating that’s 'my man' so I get her."
