US police believe ‘multiple people’ should be charged in connection with Matthew Perry’s death

US police believe ‘multiple people’ should be charged in connection with Matthew Perry’s death

An investigation into his death is believed to be 'near conclusion'

Matthew Perry’s death shocked the world last year when the actor was found in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home.

A post-mortem examination concluded that 54-year-old Perry died from the 'acute effects of ketamine', while also listing contributing factors that included 'drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine'.

His death was also ruled as being accidental.

However, back in May, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed that a joint police investigation into the circumstances of the Friends star's death had commenced.

Speaking to PA at the time, officers from LAPD revealed they'll be continuing to collaborate with the Drug Enforcement Administration on the 'open investigation', following the medical examiner's initial assertions.

Reports suggested the process would aim to enquire into how Perry obtained the general anaesthetic.

According to People, the investigation is now ‘nearing its conclusion’, according to a law enforcement investigative source.

The source told the outlet that police believe ‘multiple people’ should be charged over his death, adding that the US Attorney’s Office will ultimately make the decision on whether or not to press charges.

Tyla has reached out to the US Attorney’s Office for comment. The Office declined to comment to People.

Seven months on, Perry’s death is clearly still raw for his friends and family, with co-star Jennifer Aniston recently opening up about their friendship of almost three decades.

In a Variety interview with actor and comedian Quinta Brunson, Aniston was asked about her time on Friends, which prompted to immediately tear up.

“Oh God, don’t make me cry,” she said.

Recalling a happy memory of her and Perry, Aniston explained why she was emotional, continuing: “It’s so strange to even think that it’s 30 years old.

“I remember the day that it was going to premiere.

“Me and Matthew Perry were having lunch somewhere and we knew that Lisa [Kudrow] was getting her hair coloured.

“So we ran to the hair salon and I snuck up and she was in the sink hair bowl, and I took the nozzle and, like, just started washing her hair.

“And it definitely flew out of control and that was unfortunate.

“But the excitement we had, it feels like yesterday.”

Aniston had also paid tribute to her friend in the wake of his death, sharing a heartbreaking Instagram post dedicated to him.

“He was such a part of our DNA," she wrote.

"We were always the six of us.

"This was a chosen family that forever changed the course of who we were and what our path was going to be.

“For Matty, he KNEW he loved to make people laugh. As he said himself, if he didn’t hear the ‘laugh’ he thought he was going to die.

"His life literally depended on it. And, boy, did he succeed in doing just that. He made all of us laugh. And laugh hard.

“In the last couple of weeks, I’ve been poring over our texts to one another. Laughing and crying then laughing again. I’ll keep them forever and ever.”
