Millie Bobby Brown hits out at media over comments on 'mommy makeover' with poignant message

The actress implored with the media to 'do better' when it comes to their treatment of young women

Millie Bobby Brown has slammed the tabloid press this week for releasing a series of articles in recent weeks criticising her appearance, accusing the British media of 'bullying' her.

Taking to social media, the actress shared a self-fronted video naming and shaming a number of news outlets and authors for sharing content centred on her appearance - including one which discussed her alleged 'mommy makeover'.

In recent weeks, the 21-year-old has debuted a change in aesthetic - swapping her natural brunette tresses to Pam Anderson-esque blonde locks, prompting some theories that she could be soon to star in a Britney Spears biopic.

Sadly, however, the hair alteration - which has been publicist following several of Brown's recent red carpet award show appearances - has seen the star heavily criticised for trying to 'look older'.

As we say, however, following the cruel online taunting, Brown has now released a statement condemning comments about her image.

Her post began: "I want to take a moment to address something that I think is bigger than just me, something that affects every young woman who grows up under public scrutiny."

The former child actress then reflected: "I started in this industry when I was 10 years old. I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can’t seem to grow with me.

"Instead, they act like I’m supposed to stay frozen in time, like I should still look the way I did on Stranger Things Season 1. And because I don’t, I’m now a target."

Brown was just 11 when she was cast in the sci-fi series, with her role as 'Eleven' going on to make her a household name.

Reading out headlines in her video from news outlets accusing her of 'aging so badly', however, she discussed the apparent 'desperation' of the media 'to tear young women down'.

"This isn't journalism. This is bullying," the Enola Holmes front-woman hit out after calling out a handful of authors. "The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices is disturbing.

"And the fact that some of these articles are written by women makes it even worse."

Brown then accused such publications of critiquing her looks 'for clicks'.

"Disillusioned people can't handle seeing a girl become a woman on her terms, not their own," she slammed.

"I refuse to apologise for growing up. I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman.

"I will not be shamed for how I look, how I dress, or how I present myself."

She also questioned: "Why is it the knee-jerk reaction to say something horrible rather than just say something nice? If you have a problem with that, I have to wonder, what is it that actually makes you so uncomfortable?"

Issuing a final demand, Brown concluded her statement by imploring her followers: "Let's do better, not just for me, but for every young girl who deserves to grow up without the fear of being torn apart for simply existing."

This isn't the first time that the movie star has been forced to respond to trolling.

Back in January, she clapped back on Instagram after being told she 'looked 35', responding on her story: "Women grow!! Not sorry about it."
