Unless you’ve been leaving under a rock, you’ll be well aware that the world has gone barmy for Barbie.
It’s unsurprisingly given that Margot Robbie has been re-creating some incredible looks as she paints various towns pink on the promotional tour.

Whilst most stars have stuck to the theme, Sam Smith went for a very different look for the London premiere with fans believing they’ve figured out the ‘meaning’ behind the singer’s outfit.
Taking to the pink carpet at the A-Lister event, the Brit award winner appeared in an oversized 16 XL jumper and flared jeans by Vetements.
Adding a simple stud and a drop earring to accessorize, the outfit was much more low-key compared to the musician’s other red carpet-looks.

Earlier this year, Smith broke the internet when they attended the Brits in a huge rubber suit, which was inflated around the shoulders and knees.
The 31-year-old also wowed fans when they attended the Grammys in a glamour red robe, complete with a matching cane, leather gloves and lace mask.
If that weren’t enough, they also matched singer Kim Petras as they walked the red carpet before performing their track ‘Unholy’ live on the main stage.
With the incredible outfits they’ve worn in the past, many have been wondering why Smith wore jeans instead of something more on theme for the Barbie premiere (July 12).

Well, some fans think they’ve discovered the clever meaning behind the musician’s muted outfit.
According to Twitter page @Smithcharts, the outfit is a clever reference to the clothing people made for their Barbie and Ken dolls as kids.
The tweet read: “Sam Smith mentioned this is more of a nod of the makeshift clothes people would make for their Barbie’s & kens hence the baggy & unfit attire…”

It also claimed that the outfit was more family-friendly given the film’s themes and target audience.
Fans also pointed out in the comments that the look was still ‘high-fashion’, just in a less obvious way than Smith’s other statement outfits.
“If people don’t understand it or don’t like it… then they don’t know fashion at all. And Barbie is about fashion too,” argued one Twitter user.
Another fan was concerned that the singer had toned down their look, after facing repeated backlashes in the past.

“Hope this wasn't a response to all the criticism & haters,” they wrote: “I wish Sam had followed the #Barbie theme. You can be edgy, stylish, fun without going overboard.”
They added: “Imagine a pink/Barbie themed suit/ensemble designed by Valentino?”
Well, we think Sam Smith looked great and we can’t wait until we see their next red carpet appearance.
