Shakira rushed to hospital and forced to cancel concert

Doctors advised the star to cancel the show following emergency treatment

Shakira was forced to cancel an upcoming show after being rushed to hospital to receive emergency treatment.

The 48-year-old singer was due to perform in Lima, Peru, on Sunday night (16 February), as part of being on the road with her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour. But the star was urged to cancel her performance after doctors advised her that emergency treatment was needed.

Shakira took to her Instagram from hospital to apologise to thousands of fans waiting to see her on stage.

She said: "I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalised.

"The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening."

The singer expressed her 'sadness' as she had been 'looking forward' to reuniting with fans in Peru.

But it seems as though she is hopeful for a speedy recovery.

She added: "I hope to be released and well tomorrow so I'm able to perform."

The star also noted that her team were doing everything to reschedule the show that had been missed.

Her statement continued: "My team and the promoters are already working on a new date to communicate to you. Thank you all for your understanding, I love you all."

The tour is her first in seven years, after her 12th studio album which dropped last year in March.

The album was even a success at the Grammy awards earlier this month in Los Angeles, as it was announced she had won Best Latin Pop Album.

Shakira took her moment in the spotlight to not only thank her fans, but also make a political statement.

She said: "I want to dedicate this award to all my immigrant brothers and sisters in this country. You are loved. You are worth it. I will always fight with you."

Her sons Milan, 12, and Sasha, 10, accompanied her to the annual awards ceremony, and she thanked them in her speech.

She added: "I'm so proud of you guys, of your kind hearts. Thank you so much for supporting me the way you do. I love you. Thank you."

The former couple split back in June 2022, after it was alleged that Piqué had cheated on the star.
