A brand-new spy thriller series boasting an all-star cast has just landed on Netflix.

The thriller, which boasts a near-perfect 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, was only added to the streaming platform last Thursday (5 December) but it didn't take any time to climb to the prestigious 'No. 1 in TV Programmes Today' slot.

The six-part series stars Pride and Prejudice's Keira Knightley, This Is Going To Hurt's Ben Whishaw and Happy Valley legend Sarah Lancashire as the three main characters.

Check out the official Netflix trailer for Black Doves here:

Joining the A-lister trio are Adeel Akhtar (Fool Me Once), Omari Douglas (It's A Sin), Andrew Buchan (Industry) and Kathryn Hunter (Poor Things).

The series - dubbed by Netflix's social media as their early 'Christmas present' to us - is set in London during the festive season with the Love Actually star, Knightley, taking on the role of a mother-of-one named Helen, who also works as a professional spy.

Helen has spent the last decade passing on the secrets told by her politician husband (Buchan) to a mysterious organisation known as the Black Doves.

It isn't just her elusive profession that she's kept away from her family, however, but a secret lover named Jason (Andrew Koji).

When her secret beau is tragically assassinated, her hard-faced boss named Reed (Lancashire) calls in one of Helen's oldest pals, Sam (Whishaw) - who is also an assassin or 'triggerman' - to help keep her identity protected.

Whilst setting out to find out who murdered her lover and why, the pair inadvertently discover a colossal conspiracy linking London's criminal underworld to the political minds running the country.

Now, while it's safe to say Black Doves is all the rage right now - some Netflix viewers have made one complaint after realising where they recognise the character of Sam from - none other than the voice of the beloved Paddington bear.

Whishaw voiced the character for Paddington (2014), Paddington 2 (2017) and the recent Paddington in Peru which came out this year.

After making the bombshell discovery, Netflix viewers raced to social media to share their thoughts.

One X user penned: "Finished Black Doves - the show had its issues especially the last episode but absolutely loved Ben Whishaw's character in it... and that was before learning just now that he is the voice of Paddington."

"Watching Black Doves on Netflix and had to find out if I was watching the voice of Paddington Bear murder people…" pointed out a second while another chirped: "Black Doves seems alright, but it is off putting when an assassin has Paddington's voice."

And a final X user echoed: "Seeing Paddington Bear as a ruthless killer in Black Doves is ever so slightly disturbing…"

Black Doves is currently available to stream on Netflix.
