The official premise of the inspirational film titled I Can Only Imagine - which first hit theatres in 2018 - reads: "Arthur mends his relationship with his son, Bart Millard, after physically abusing him in his childhood. As an outcome of their reconciliation, years later, Bart writes a hit song."
Based on American contemporary Christian music band MercyMe's popular song of the same name, I Can Only Imagine tells the tear-jerking true story of lead vocalist Bart Millard's complicated relationship with his abusive father who is portrayed in the musical-drama by Dennis Quaid.
The plot follows Bart's character, played by J. Michael Finley, through the breakup of his family, his high school career, and his introduction to music.
