While it’s always disappointing when we have to wave goodbye to summer, one thing we can always rely on when the evenings grow darker is that autumn also means Bake Off season.
While the series is normally filmed during the summer months, there’s something about it that’s inherently cosy, with all of us curling up on the sofa each week to see what the contestants are going to whip up.
Back in 2022, the show went especially seasonal when it gave us a special Halloween-themed week, tasking the remaining bakers with three terrifying challenges - an apple cake Signature round, followed by a s’mores-inspired Technical and, finally a Halloween piñata Showstopper.

This episode - like many other previous instalments - is still available to watch via Channel 4 streaming, where it was given a trigger warning.
According to The Sun, people were warned that the programme ‘isn’t suitable for younger viewers’, with a red ‘guidance’ symbol displayed on the streamer.
Sir John Hayes, senior Tory MP, told The Sun: “Most people find these type of trigger warnings very bizarre. The idea that The Great British Bake Off could be risky or dangerous is for the birds.”
However, the alert was later removed, with Channel 4 insisting it was purely an ‘error’.

A spokesperson for the channel told Tyla in a statement: “The Great British Bake Off is a family show, loved by audiences of all ages. Any guidance warnings were applied in error.”
The episode saw presenter Noel Fielding kitted out in a skeleton costume, while the tent was transformed into an autumnal dreamworld with pumpkins and Halloween-themed decorations.
The piñata creations were as show-stopping as promised, with ultimate winner Syabira whipping up a hanging ‘Itsy Bitsy Spider’ spectacle, which also doubled up as a lantern.

This week on the Bake Off, 2024’s contestants will be tackling Pastry Week, which will include a frangipane tart Signature.
Bakers will then ‘set sail for warmer climes with a flaky Technical’, before finishing up with some choux work as they create their own Paris-Brest - complete with a freestanding podium.
Once you've seen all the drama unfold, you can always get onto the Channel 4's streaming service to get into the Halloween spirit with 2022's offering.
