'Emotionally charged' crime thriller finally lands on BBC this week and people can't wait

We've been in for a right treat as of recent in terms of viewing material to snuggle down with at the end of the day.

From Bridgerton, Kin and, of course, Love Island, it's clear we're in no way short of good telly.

Well, there's soon to be one more show to add to the rundown as BBC iPlayer viewers simply can't wait for the 'emotionally charged' crime thriller to finally be added to the streaming platform this week.

So, what's it about?

Picture the scene: Detective Mehmet Suleyman - a small-town officer with an impressive CV when it comes to catching crime on his home turf - is sent to the bustling city of Istanbul with the task of uncovering the truth behind a string of apparent murders that are keeping the metropolis' citizens in a terrified chokehold.

Despite feeling daunted by the prospect that he’s not yet faced a killer in his career, he joins the homicide ranks of formidable Inspector Cetin Ikmen who - much in the same fashion as these classic, heart-stopping crime series - likes his things done a certain way.

Eventually, the duo get over their initial animosity and - joined by IT guru Tarik - they set their sights on putting an end to the Turkish city’s murderous crime spree.

Only when they finally discover their first lead, however, do the trio find themselves embroiled slap bang in the centre of the murder investigation.

The series is, of course, The Turkish Detective.

Check out the official trailer here:

Fans of the book series The Turkish Detective is based on clearly couldn't wait to deliver their verdicts over BBC iPlayer's latest addition with many rushing to social media to share their excitement.

One X user penned: "Cannot wait for The Turkish Detective! People who haven't read Barbara Nadel's books, you're really missing something."

Speaking of the new addition, Ben Schiffer (writer & executive producer) said: "From the moment I opened Barbara Nadel's novel, I fell in love with the unique, iconic character of Inspector Ikmen.

"A beacon of hope and humour in a dark, difficult world, I'm so delighted that he and our show, a blend of emotionally-charged mystery and family drama, has found a home at the BBC."

Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, added: "Not only does The Turkish Detective provide a compelling, multi-layered crime thriller, but is set in stunning Istanbul, a vibrant contemporary city that also reflects the cultural influences of a rich and varied historical past – it’s a truly fascinating combination."

The Turkish Detective will launch later this week on BBC iPlayer.
