“It’s a wonderful bunch of people and I’ll miss all of them.

"I’m so sad that I am unable to go any further. Thank you to everyone who voted and who sent wonderful messages and inspiring support."

Fellow cast member Bobby and professional dancer Dianne Buswell appeared on the Lorraine this morning, sharing their well wishes to the Sherlock star.

Presenter Christine Lampard said: “Amanda Abbington has of course had to step away, there’s always something every year isn’t it, it’s just unfortunate because you go in wanting to be there for as long as possible.”

Dianne said: “We’re going to miss her a lot in the competition.’
