Gen Z mocked after only just making key realisation about Friends storyline

Gen Z mocked after only just making key realisation about Friends storyline

"Damn I feel old", says everyone older than Gen Z who are long-time Friends fans

So, the battle of the generations has kicked off again thanks to a little-known fact about Friends.

We all know how protective Friends fans are, but it’s so much more cut throat when someone doesn’t realised that something in the fictional show is true in real life too.

Of course, a lot of shows are based on fact, such as the location, the pop culture at the time and so on.

However, what about fictional shows within a show?

Now, it’s nobody’s fault for thinking that this would be the work of the show writers just creating something off the cuff for their actors.

Except, some people are being blamed for not knowing that a very prominent show in Friends was a real-life series that started back in 1965.

Online, there’s a war brewing against Gen Z and their lack of awareness of an old-timely show.

You’ll remember that Joey Tribbiani was an actor, who after a ton of failed gigs landed his star role as Dr Drake Ramoray on Days of Our Lives - a TV show about doctors.

It was a big portion of some of the episodes, where we even saw Brooke Shields play a deranged super fan who was obsessed with the character, only to conjure up Drake’s evil twin, Hans.

Hans was a player, and it definitely wasn’t Joey…

But many people thought it was totally fictional.

However, it wasn’t.

Days of Our Lives was a soap opera that aired on NBC from 1965 to 2022 and is still streaming today.

Not only was it incorporated into Friends, but it has a special meaning to Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green.

That’s because her dad, John Aniston, famously played Viktor Kiriakis on the hospital drama.

People online mocked Gen Z for their lack of knowledge on the subject.

It all started when a Redditor posted: “Wait, today I learned that Days of Our Lives is an actual TV show, and that Jennifer Aniston's dad played in it from 1985 to 2022.”

One person said: “You’re a youngin’!”

Another wrote: “Lmao what are you serious. You must be super young I guess.”

Someone else teased: “Damn i feel old.”

However, a lot of people came to their defence, explaining that if you didn’t grow up in America, there’s no reason you would know about NBC’s most notable TV show.

Someone defended OP: “You’re not alone, I learnt it was a real show recently. From Europe too so I guess that’s why.”

Another said: “I found this out recently watching two and a half men for the first time. Thought it was a friends reference until my partner told me it was a real show.”

Jennifer’s dad played his character for 37 years, on and off right up until his death in 2022.

He was still acting in it all the way through his daughter’s tenure on Friends, and well after it ended.

It’s show has a giant fanbase who all think Viktor is the best character to come from the show.

Which is pretty great, as Rachel has long been hailed as one of the favourites from Friends too.
