Grey’s Anatomy is one of the longest running shows out there with its 21 seasons and 440 episodes later impressively captivating viewers for two whole decades,.
As any die-hard fans of the long-running TV drama series will know, there are a bunch of main characters, including the likes of Meredith Grey, Richard Burke, and Miranda Bailey, who have remained on the show since the first ever episode.
While there may be a consistent core cast, however, it's clear that the programme is no stranger to having a revolving door when it comes to its characters.

Actually, in all 21 seasons of Grey's Anatomy, which first hit our screens back 2005, there have been around 34 series regulars over the course of the programme.
Over the years, many characters have been written out due to actor departures or changes in character arcs.
One departure of which clearly still seems to be a touchy subject.

Steven W. Bailey played one beloved character - Joe the Bartender - from season two to season three, and season five to season seven of Grey's Anatomy.
However, after season seven, he and his Emerald City Bar were totally wiped from the show.
Fans have been far from silent on the matter with one X user wondering: "Y'all whatever happened to joe on Grey's Anatomy. He was a good bartender/character."

"Grey's Anatomy started going downhill when we stopped seeing Joe the bartender," hit out a second.
A third confessed: "I'm on my annual rewatch of Grey's Anatomy, and I've decided the best character to be would be Joe the bartender.
"He gets to hear everyone's drama, without being directly involved, AND he doesn't have to cut anyone open to do so."
"Joe from Grey’s Anatomy was such a responsible bartender. He would be taking people’s car keys and calling them cabs and what not. You have to stan," praised a fourth.

And a final X user asked: "Is Grey’s Anatomy ever going to address what happened to joe the bartender and why they stopped showing the bar?"
Well, while there has been a bunch of speculation about what happened to the character, his departure was reportedly down to the show's writers struggling to fit him into the upcoming storylines as well as negotiate his contract.
So, because of this, Joe the Bartender was simply written out of the show - never to be seen again.
