Jim Carrey is rumoured to be returning as everybody's favourite grumpy green cynic in an upcoming sequel to The Grinch.
When it comes to staple festive season flicks, How the Grinch Stole Christmas often tops the list.
The Christmas film stars Carrey, 61, in the titular role of Mr Grinch - a mean-tempered misanthropist who despises all things Yuletide.
As the residents of Whoville prepare to welcome Santa Claus into their homes, the Grinch hatches a plan and schemes to cancel Christmas forever.

The Ron Howard-directed movie is based on Dr. Seuss's 1957 book of the same name and has just celebrated its 23rd birthday.
Excitingly, it has been reported that Universal Pictures is commissioning a sequel to mark the milestone.
Earlier this year Giant Freakin Robot alleged that The Grinch 2 is in the works and will see the return of Carrey.
The site wrote: “Jim Carrey is returning to Universal Pictures for The Grinch 2, once again playing Dr. Seuss's most famous and ill-tempered creation."

They also said that The Truman Show star will be ‘coming back as the character after an absence of over 20 years.’
LADbible Group has contacted a representative of Jim Carrey and Universal for further comment.
While the prospect of returning to Whoville is amazing, the 61-year-old has previously claimed he’s not too fussed about starring in sequels.

In 2017, he told CinemaBlend: “I find sequels are a function of commerce for the most part.
“At least the two I've done, they were characters I enjoyed doing, but I did find myself almost parroting myself at that point.”
He added that when you ‘put 10 years’ between movies you end up ‘imitating your original inspiration’.

To further dispel rumours, Carrey said last April that he was officially retiring from acting.
Prior to the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - where he stars as the notorious Doctor Eggman - the comedian said that he was ‘fairly serious’ about hanging up his hat.
“Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious,” he told Access Hollywood.

“It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break.”
The star added that he likes his ‘spiritual life’ and that he has had ‘enough’ of the acting industry.
True to his word, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 remains his most recent cinematic outing.
As per IMDB, there are no movies or TV series' starring Carrey announced to be in pre or post-production at this time.
