Based on a wild true story, this ITV drama has had viewers hooked and wanting to find out more

A TV crime drama based on the real life crimes of a female con artist has got viewers recommending it as a 'must watch'.

The three-episode series is described by ITV as "Melissa Caddick: financial whizz with a mansion, luxury cars and clothes, and a fiercely loyal clientele who trust her to invest their money. But secretly, she’s ripping them off."

Titled 'Vanishing Act', the TV series was released in 2023 but months later it's still winning over fans who can't believe the crimes that Melissa got away with.

Starring Kate Atkinson as the con artist Melissa Caddick in 'Vanishing Act' it shows how she away with stealing so much money before seemingly disappearing in November 2020.

The crime drama is based on the true story of the Australian woman who went on the run after it emerged she was suspected of stealing nearly £15 million while posing as a qualified financial advisor, and even stole from her own friends and family. After seemingly disappearing before she could be caught, she never returned.

It's believed that from 2012 to 2020 she scammed her clients out of more than £12 million as well as splurging on a lavish lifestyle that included a multimillion pound mansion in Sydney.

After being investigated for fraud and stealing from her clients in 2020, she seemingly disappeared. Three months later, her detached foot inside a trainer washed up on Bournda Beach, 250 miles from her home.

She was finally declared presumed dead in May 2023, but the exact cause and time of death remain unknown.

The ITV series has already hooked fans as some wrote on Mumsnet that it's 'a great weekend watch'.

One person wrote: "I watched it all yesterday! She really was a self-centered individual, wasn't she? (I shan't elaborate, as that would be a spoiler)."

Another added: "Saw this thread this afternoon and have just finished it. Very enjoyable, thanks for the recommendation! I wonder what really happened?"

"Just finished it - I felt really sad for the friend who had recommended her friends and relatives," said another. "A relative of mine was conned out of his life savings by his own sibling supposedly investing it and I said to DH [Dear Husband], that’s how they must have felt when it all started to unravel."

Another posted: "We've just finished the series, omg it was a bit grim in places."
