Dining on a cruise ship can sometimes be a very extravagant affair, but with so much choice on offer, things can obviously be a bit hit and miss.
You’ve often got several restaurants to pick from, depending on what you’re in the mood for, with many themed around different cuisines from across the world.
But it seems some places might be better than others when it comes to nailing the authenticity - something one person learnt the hard way when they headed to their cruise ship’s Irish bar for some traditional grub.

“Asked for Sausage and Chips at an Irish bar on a cruise,” they said as they shared a photo of the meal on Reddit a few years back.
They added in a comment: “I don’t know how they served this with a straight face haha.”
Many others agreed that the dish perhaps left quite a lot to be desired.

“Not a very Irish bar tbf,” one person wrote, with another agreeing: “I was thinking... This wouldn't happen in Ireland.”
Indeed, the ‘sausage and chips’ in question was, in fact, a small skillet stuffed with two podgy sausages on a bed of... crisps.
Not chips, but crisps.
“That bar is definitely not Irish but an imposter who read up on crisp sandwiches on Wikipedia,” someone else joked, while another said the sausages made them feel ‘uncomfortable’.

Of course, we all know that crisps in some countries are known as chips, so the mistake is arguably slightly justified.
That said, how on Earth are you supposed to eat that? Would you need a knife and fork, or should you treat it like a plate of sausagey Irish-style nachos?
Others didn’t seem to care too much, admitting that they’d be down for giving it a go however you had to tackle the bizarre dish.
“I would be ashamed of myself but I would enjoy eating this,” one said, with another adding: “Looks delicious to me.”

Some also questioned what the original poster realistically expected ordering food from an Irish bar on a cruise ship, which is arguably a fair point - while they didn't mention the specific liner they were with, it's perhaps one to remember next time you're browsing the restaurants on offer during your next trip...
