Anyone who used the internet yesterday (9 April) is sure to have seen the almighty trolling Aldi threw Marks & Spencer (M&S)’s way – and now M&S have hit back.
Aldi, who are no stranger to being iconic on social media, went viral yet again this week by taking a swipe at fellow supermarket M&S after they spotted a huge blunder on site.
On their official Facebook and Instagram pages, Aldi posted a screenshot of M&S’s £669 garden dining set.
The eagle-eyed team at Aldi saw a bottle of wine in the middle of the table.

Nothing major, surely? Probably just a bottle of M&S wine they're flogging?
Uh, nope.
Taking their findings to social media, Aldi wrote: ‘Marks and Spencer drink Aldi wine pass it on.’
And, a quick zoom does clearly show that the wine bottle has the Aldi ‘Specially Selected’ logo on it.

To be even more specific, the wine is Aldi's Specially Selected Côtes De Provence - which then quickly sold out (well, of course).
One person responded at the time: “If I had spent £669 for a table and chairs to get rained in 364 days a year, I would need some ALDI wine.”
Of course, M&S couldn’t let that one lie.

Hours passed before they responded, presumably as their teams were running around in a flurry thinking about how to match that epic takedown.
Then, a spokesperson for M&S issued Tyla with a comment: “Sometimes you regret asking guests to BYOB – this one is fine for a prop but if you’d prefer to enjoy a top-quality bottle of award-winning rosé with your new garden furniture, we’d recommend our gorgeously fruity and aromatic Collection Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire rosé – an absolute must for lovers of pink drinks in the sunshine!”
Ouch.

This run-in isn’t the first they’ve had, believe it or not.
One of the most iconic exchanges on Supermarket Twitter (yep, I actually just wrote that), was caterpillar cake-gate.
Back in 2021, M&S attempted to sue Aldi over their ‘lookalike cake’ to staple chocolate treat, Colin the Caterpillar. FYI, Aldi’s cake is called Cuthbert.
Eventually, M&S settled the lawsuit. But both saw their chance to post their side on social media.

M&S posted on Instagram: "Colin won’t be commenting, but says thanks for your support. #OGColin."
AldiUK swiftly tweeted in response: "Cuthbert has been found GUILTY… of being delicious."
Another tweet followed: "Marks & Snitches more like. #FreeCuthbert."
What a time to be alive.
We can’t wait to see what they fight over next.
Wine, anyone?
