A genius hack to clean your entire oven in just 20 minutes uses just one household item – and, better still, it also avoids using any nasty chemicals.
Cleaning the oven has to be up there with the WORST household tasks, beaten only – I'd argue – by tackling the toilet...
Out of sheer desperation, some people might call in a specialist to do their dirty work, or splash out on expensive cleaning products to help get the desired effect.

However, what if said you didn’t have to do either?
There’s a popular hack that’s been doing the rounds online for a while, and all you need is a bowl of water.
It’s mentioned on the Oven Pride website as part of a handy list of tricks to make your oven ‘spotless’.
“With all sorts of pasta bakes, joints of meat and other tasty treats going in your oven, it’s unsurprising that it’s a haven for spillages and grease,” it says.

“With that said, we probably neglect cleaning our ovens as much as we should, which means when the time comes to give them a once over, the task usually ends up being tougher and more frustrating than it needs to be.
“This leads to us putting it off, creating a vicious cycle where the oven becomes dirtier and dirtier the longer we leave it.
“The good news is, there are plenty of tricks and tips you can use to make it a little easier for yourself next time you need to give your oven some TLC.”

There’s one trick that’s particularly simple, as it won’t involve rushing out to buy any fancy products.
All you’ll need is an oven-proof bowl filled with hot water, which you pop in the oven once you’ve finished cooking your meal.
You then crank the temperature right up, allowing the steam from the water to loosen any grimy bits inside the oven.
Leave it there for 20 minutes to an hour, then, once the oven has cooled, simply wipe the surfaces down.

Oven Pride explains: “As soon as you’ve finished using the oven, a great tip is to put a heat-resistant bowl of water inside and heat it at a high temperature for 20 minutes so it can loosen dirt and grease,” it continues.
“Once the time has elapsed, remove the bowl, wait for the oven to cool down completely and wipe down the surfaces with paper towels.”
One mum tried a similar trick a few years ago, posting the results on the Mums Who Clean Facebook group.

“I would always use oven cleaner and spray it and the fumes were so toxic I’d be coughing my guts up,” she explained.
“Heavily pregnant so I used bicarb, vinegar and water in a glass bowl at 150 degrees for 45mins, cooled down then just wiped it clean... and came up pretty good.”
