Finding the perfect place to live can be tricky, as you need to consider your budget, location and local amenities.

But why rent or buy when you could cruise around for life?

Well, this is exactly what one couple are doing after deciding that it’s cheaper than living on land.

John and Melody Hennessee have made the bold choice to live on a cruise ship after selling their business, most of their worldly possessions and their Florida home back in 2020 to travel the world.

After living in a motorhome and travelling the States, the couple eventually grew tired of driving about and decided that sailing would be much more fun.

It was when John came across a Facebook advertisement for a cruise with the Royal Caribbean, which lasts 274-days, that their future plans were set in stone.

They quickly registered their names on the boar and have since travelled all over the world.

The couple have been to amazing places like Australia, New Zealand and are currently lavishing in Dominican Republic.

But the catch is that it’s actually cheaper than living on land.

John told Sky News: “We now have a telephone bill, a ship bill, and a few credit card bills for when we go ashore, but that’s it.

“We no longer have a mortgage or the expense of homes. We no longer have vehicle insurance, property insurance, or utility bills. The list goes on.”

He went on to estimate that their expenses are ‘close to half of what it was when we lived on land.’

But what’s even better is that the couple will be permanent fixtures on the cruise by Christmas next year, and have even bought a cabin on board the Villa Vie residential cruise ship as their new home.

Though the couple need to wait until Christmas as the Villa Vie is still being built.

Melody added: “We wanted to buy a cabin so we can design it how we want. It’s going to be home for us, for probably a minimum of 15 years on the ship.”

The ship comes equipped with a doctor and dentist.

The cabins will come with everything a person would need to live with, including a kitchenette and pull-down beds for guests.

They can even bring along family members for free if they wish, and the boat comes equipped with its own dentist and doctor.

Melody added: “We wanted to buy a cabin so we can design it how we want. It’s going to be home for us, for probably a minimum of 15 years on the ship.

“We are just water people. We are both boaters. We love being on the ocean.”
