Some lucky adults out there still get to enjoy an advent calendar every festive season despite them being primarily aimed at children - because their parents still treat them each year.
While it's hard for those of us whose parents have opted out of the trend to understand, as one person on Reddit made clear, the tradition is still alive and kicking for some families.
Writing on the hugely popular online forum, the unnamed person wrote: "My mum's given me an advent calendar. I’m a 26 year old man. Is this normal? It’s quite sweet but it seems a few years off."

It seems that although some people don't still get to enjoy that luxury, the vast majority of those who responded to the question had a very similar answer.
The verdict? That it's an incredibly sweet thing to do, and you're simply never too old to count down to Christmas Day with chocolate in tow.
One person wrote: "Can confirm, my mother and my wife's mother does this for me. Every year. I'm 44. I gave up telling them not to bother as it goes in one ear and out the other."

Another said: "I mean, I'm 25 and whenever my mum asks me if I want an advent calendar my answer is always a resounding yes. I simply love chocolate & Christmas so why not."
A third added: "Can confirm, my mother and my wife's mother does this for me. Every year. I'm 44. I gave up telling them not to bother as it goes in one ear and out the other."
A fourth said: "I am a 30 year old woman that lives 450 miles away from my mum and I still get an advent calendar posted to me."

So it seems like the jury is well and truly in on this one - and advent calendars should be encouraged as a gift no matter your age.
In other Christmas-related news, John Lewis have released their much-anticipated Crimbo advert and true to form, it's a real tearjerker.
The advert, which is broadcast as a short film, is called 'The Gifting Hour' and follows Sally as she frantically searches John Lewis' flagship store in Oxford Street as she scrambles to find the perfect gift for her sister.
Falling into a full rack of dresses leads to her travelling back in time to her family home (of course), as she searches through past memories in order to find the ideal present.

Sally then reunites with her sister outside of the store, holding the gift which is wrapped to perfection. The duo then walk off into the distance, but not before John Lewis' window shows Sally's sister, as her childhood self from the previous cherished memories.
The following tagline then appears: “The secret to finding the perfect gift? Knowing where to look.”
Grab the tissues.
