Who pays on a first date is a question that has never truly been answered.
Some will die on the hill that the man should always pay for the first meal, while others believe it’s polite to split.
One man came under fire, however, after insisting his Tinder date pay for half of their food bill when it arrived.

You can see what happened here:
The video, which was posted to TikTok, showed the argument between the two - with his date shown slamming the bill book onto her credit card.
She then asks why he was asking her to 'split the bill'.

His logic was that she ordered a plate of food that he 'didn’t touch', and because it was their first date.
However, his date thought a bit differently.
In her mind, he had asked her out on the date, and therefore it was his responsibility to pay for the bill.
"I can't believe you made us split the bill... you asked me out... you asked me out," she said.

He captioned the video: “I don’t even know her and she didn’t want to split the bill? “After SHE ordered an appetiser that I didn’t want!
“THIS is what it’s like dating in MIAMI smh (shaking my head).
“I gotta move somewhere else, these girls are ENTITLED.”

However, people in the comments were mostly with the girl - but possibly not for the reason you might expect.
One person said: “If you can’t afford to date, then don’t!
“You split the bill with friends or with people that you have no intention of courting.”
Another said: “Bro, if you invite, you pay.

“If not, let her know so she can have a choice right from the start.”
A third said: "Date? Nah you're a friend if we split the bill lol."
Another commenter said he should have said he wanted to split the bill 'before picking her up'.
He later addressed the comments in a response video, saying he 'didn't understand' that opinion.
"It's not like I'm forcing anybody to go on a date with me. Clearly we are both 50/50 on the date, she wants to be there just as much as I want to be there." he said.
He then went on to say that this wasn't 'back in the day' where women were 'a prize', adding that it's 'rare' to find a woman who wants to 'cook, clean and take care of the kids'.
In response to people calling him 'broke', he then asks if they are 'broke' since they are 'offended' by the notion.
"If you're not gonna do what women should do, which doesn't exist anymore, then sorry you gotta go 50/50." he said.
