It’s heartbreaking enough to discover the person you married isn’t the one for you, but to do so on your wedding day is a whole new level of deflating.
This sounds like something out of an episode of Married at First Sight, but it’s been the reality for some couples who have shared their experiences in a Reddit thread that will make you feel glad if you happen to be single.
Some people have opened their hearts, recalling the exact moments they’ve either got the ick for their spouse or realised the person they thought would be their life partner wasn’t being genuine.

And yes, as in the most dramatic episode of a reality TV show we love to hate watch, for some this moment materialised on their wedding day.
There’s so much pressure on wedding days to be the most special day for a couple, though in reality there’s much that can go wrong right after saying ‘I do’. Immediately after, in fact.
One Reddit user had an epiphany after a bit of back and forth on the ceremony budget with his partner.

"On the wedding day she spent a fortune on unnecessary things, and I knew I’d be the one footing the bill on the credit card she ran up
"So, I told her no more.
"She said she wanted an ice cream vendor there (we already had two dessert bars) [so I] told her it was not needed. She fought me on it but finally agreed.
"Wedding day comes, I’m standing with my groomsmen, in comes the ice cream truck. Knew right then, sadly.”

While agreeing on financials can be a crucial factor in a steady, long-term and happy marriage, respecting one’s boundaries in an exclusive romance is as important.
But not for one groom, who apparently couldn’t hold off messaging his ‘side chick’ on his own wedding day. The bride was not impressed and knew right away their union wouldn’t work.
She wrote: "When he was messaging a side chick on our wedding day and boy did it go sideways from there.”
For someone else, the bitter realisation came about during what’s supposed to be the best part of getting hitched: going on honeymoon.

One couple couldn’t agree on what to do on their newlyweds holiday in Greece, with the bliss being short-lived when he ditched her to go swim with two mates he’d insisted go with them.
"After we got married, while we were in Greece on our honeymoon, he absolutely lost his mind at me in public,” the user wrote.
"I had wanted to go see a beach on the island that is supposed to be one of the most beautiful in the world, so we tried to catch the bus, but it never came.

"He screamed at me, telling me he hated travelling with me, and asked how could I ruin his vacation like this.
"Then we walked to the beach nearby and he went swimming with his two friends who he insisted come with us on the trip. I was too stunned and humiliated to do anything except sit on a beach chair and cry."
