'Jump humping' bedroom trend explained as Mormons are forced to follow strict rules surrounding sex

The Church of Latter-Day Saints do not allow pre-marital or extra-marital sex

Ever since Hulu’s new reality show The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives landed on screens earlier this months, viewers have been dying to know all of the mysterious community's deepest secrets - including the ins and outs of their sex lives.

Not only have stars of the show now lifted the lid on the controversial bedroom act of 'soaking', but the Mormon concept of 'jump humping' has now set tongues further wagging...

If you're unfamiliar with the show, the series came to light after a hoard of teenage Mormons began detailing the realities of their unconventional way of life on TikTok, sparking a demand for further questions to be answered.

And - as it always the case - the topic that seemingly has fans most intrigued surrounds antics between the sheets, with many wondering where the Church of Latter-Day Saints community stands on sex.

And it turns out, they have to abide by some pretty strict rules, including not engaging in any form of intimacy outside of marriage (whether pre-marital or extra-marital).

Interestingly, masturbation is also a big no-no.

This is because they believe family is integral to the plan of God - so jeopardising that is unacceptable - being that the Bible's 10 commandments say: "Thou shalt not commit adultery."

Naturally, however, raunchy teens have discovered a means of getting around these restrictions - including, by 'jump humping'.

The revelation comes as viewers learned firstly of the concept of 'soaking', which reportedly sees Mormons enjoy penetration, without actually moving.

If you can't picture it, don't worry, it took me a while.

Basically, though, the man inserts his penis into the women's vagina, but they both lie there completely still - essentially, letting it 'soak'.

The feeling of sex without actually having sex can also be intensified by 'jump humping', which sees a third party invited to the bedroom, where they'll jump on the bed so as to instigate movement between the two parties.

'But where exactly do these uber-strict rules and regulations come from?', I hear you ask.

Well, according to SBS Editor and ex-Mormon, Mark Mariano - who spoke to ABC News recently - it's all about preserving your position in the afterlife.

"The consequences are that you won't be able to experience the ideal spiritual afterlife," he explained.

"And so I think there's this real element of shame and fear of consequence, that comes with breaking the rules."

He added that Mormons are looking for ways to experience sex in a 'god-friendly' manner, though expressed some doubts as to the actual popularity of trends like 'soaking' and 'jump humping'.

"That's why Mormon couples are doing all they can finding all these loopholes, to just still experience sex and in a certain way that's still deemed 'god friendly', or that is still deemed religion and Mormon friendly," Mariano continued.

"But I wish it wasn't that way. I wish that wasn't the case. And I just wished more couples could explore their sexuality in more fruitful ways."

He went on: "I obviously don't want to speak on behalf of the whole religion, but I'm assuming that there is a very big vast difference between Australian Mormonism and American Mormonism in the sense that Mormonism began in America.

"And so in its travels, I'm sure different things were adopted and different things were tweaked along the way."
