If you thought the US was a nation of non-stop passion, you might want to think again.
A new study conducted by mattress company NapLab, surveyed over 1,500 people to find out how often they’re getting intimate.

The study has revealed that the average American is only having sex 1.06 times per week – and in some states, it's far less than that.
Shockingly, nearly 10 percent admitted they have sex just once a year, while almost 5.6 percent said they never have sex at all.
But some states are putting in a lot more effort than others.
Which states are having the most sex?
At the top of the list is Alaska, where residents are having sex an impressive 2.8 times per week – nearly three times the national average. Whether it's the cold weather driving them under the covers or something else, Alaskans are officially the most sexually active in the US.

In second place is New Mexico, with couples getting intimate 2.06 times per week. And rounding out the top three is Vermont, where people are having sex 1.7 times per week.
Which states are having the least sex?
At the other end of the spectrum, Colorado came dead last, with people only having sex 0.42 times per week – meaning many residents aren’t even getting intimate once a fortnight.
Other states struggling to keep things steamy include Maine, Michigan, and Nebraska.

How often are Americans really having sex?
The survey found that on average, 45.6 percent of Americans have sex once per week. And while 24.8 percent admitted to only having sex once per month, some 9.5 percent of responders confessed to only having sex once a year, and 7.8 percent claimed they have sex every day.
While many people assume younger generations are having more sex, research shows that’s not the case. A study of dating habits found that Gen Z (18-26-year-olds) are only having sex three times per month – the same as Baby Boomers (60+).

Meanwhile, Gen X and Millennials are the most sexually active, getting intimate five times per month on average.
Why are Americans having less sex?
Experts believe there are a few reasons why Americans’ sex lives are in decline.
One theory is that social media and screen time are reducing face-to-face interactions, making it harder for people to form connections. Financial stress and the pressure to succeed may also be contributing to lower libidos, particularly among younger generations.

Another concerning factor is the rise of loneliness. A 2023 report by the US Surgeon General warned that nearly 50 percent of Americans experience significant levels of loneliness, which could be affecting their sex lives.
