Elon Musk has extremely controversial reaction to Tom Hanks’ SNL MAGA joke that left Trump supporters outraged

People have been left in shock over Elon Musk's extreme reaction to Tom Hanks' controversial Saturday Night Live sketch.

The actor, 68, was one of many famous faces appearing at the SNL50: The Anniversary Special, which took place on Sunday evening (16 February) to mark 50 years of Saturday Night Live.

The original sketch had appeared in a 2016 episode of Black Jeopardy where Hanks played Donald Trump supporter, Doug.

In the scene, Doug wears a MAGA baseball cap and refuses to shake hands with Darnell Hayes, played by Kenan Thompson.

The skit didn't go down well with Republican viewers, with many taking to X to criticise Hanks over the performance.

One person wrote on X: "Tom Hanks and SNL thought it would be hilarious for him to put on a MAGA hat and act out a stereotype of half the country in a desperate attempt to cope with Democrats crushing defeat in November. Not surprising no one watches SNL or NBC anymore."

And another added: "After watching Tom Hanks do a sad mockery of me & every other Trump supporter on SNL's 50th anniversary show I know I'll never watch another of his performances or movies."

Meanwhile a third wrote: “Tom Hanks went on SNL dressed like a slob mocking millions of Trump supporters.... Keep it up libs. You'll never win another election again.”

Musk - who is head of Trump's newly created Department for Government Efficiency - had a pretty extreme reaction to the sketch himself, re-tweeting an offensive comment shared by a Republican social media user on X.

The tweet read: "Hey pedo @tomhanks.

"Not ALL #MAGA hat wearing patriots are white.

"In fact, most racism comes from the elite Democrats, you a** hole."

Re-tweeting the comment, Musk shared two fire emojis alongside the post.

People were horrified that Musk re-tweeted the comments, with one person writing: "Why would someone post that about Tom Hanks and then why would anyone waste their time to repost something like that without any validity to the claim?"

While another said: "Prove it, Elon."

Hanks' sketch wasn't the only viral moment the actor encountered over the weekend, with another scene seeing him and wife Rita Wilson, also 68, storming suddenly off the set.

In the minutes prior, presenter Jimmy Fallon addressed the crowd before cracking a joke that the three-hour long show would not see any accolades presented.

"Apparently, there’s been some confusion," Fallon jibed.

"This is just a concert. We’re not giving out any awards tonight. So I just want to make sure that everyone knows that."

It was then that father-of-four Hanks could be seen taking his other-half's hand in the audience, before the pair climb out of the seats and head towards the studio's backdoor.

Actress and singer Wilson then wagged her finger at the camera as the two exited the venue, with Fallon, 50, questioning: "Tom? Rita?"

"We lost Tom Hanks and Rita," he added. "Sorry. It wasn’t their fault."
