Prince William shares extremely rare emotional message to Kate Middleton on her birthday following cancer diagnosis

The Prince of Wales took to social media to celebrate his wife's birthday

The Prince of Wales has shared a heartwarming 'happy birthday' message on social media today to celebrate Kate Middleton's 43rd birthday.

It is understood that the mother-of-three will be celebrating at home in Windsor, along with 42-year-old William, George, 11, Charlotte, nine, and Louis, six.

The monarchy's official social media account - which represents Kate's father-in-law King Charles and Queen Camilla - was amongst the first to issue an online tribute to her special day, writing, 'Happy Birthday to The Princess of Wales!' on Instagram with a birthday cake emoji.

The sentimental upload also included a photo of the Princess, who is seen smiling as she collected bouquets of flowers from onlookers outside St Mary Magdalene's Church in Sandringham on Christmas Day 2024.

And in William's emotional tribute - shared to his official Twitter account - the Prince spoke of his wife's bravery, mentioning her recent cancer treatment and recovery.

"To the most incredible wife and mother," he wrote, sharing a black and white photo of Kate. The strength you’ve shown over the last year has been remarkable. George, Charlotte, Louis and I are so proud of you.

"Happy Birthday, Catherine. We love you. W."

Kate revealed in March 2024 that she'd been diagnosed with cancer, but opted not to reveal the strain of the disease.

In the weeks prior, the Princess had undergone abdominal surgery, and had taken a lengthy break from the public eye.

Following the procedure, she remained in the London Clinic for two weeks.

William previously described 2024 as the 'hardest year' of his life, being that his father, The King, had also been diagnosed with cancer.

At an event in South Africa, the Prince was asked about his family's current health status, as well as how he and his children had been coping.

"It's been dreadful," he confessed back in November. "It's probably been the hardest year in my life. So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult."

Towards the end of last year, Kate made a return to her official duties, and in September, she revealed she'd concluded her treatment.

Sharing a deeply personal video along with William and their three children, she said of her recovery: "Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus.

Kate added: "Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes."
