Prince William gives health update on Kate Middleton following cancer diagnosis

Prince William gives health update on Kate Middleton following cancer diagnosis

Prince William spoke about Kate Middleton's health at last night's Earthshot Awards in Cape Town (6 November)

After the Princess of Wales revealed earlier this year that she had begun receiving treatment for cancer, her husband has this week provided the public with an update on her health.

Speaking at the Earthshot Prize Award rehearsals in Cape Town yesterday afternoon (6 Nov), Prince William described his wife as 'amazing' while lifting the lid on the success of her chemotherapy.

Mother-of-three Kate Middleton first announced her cancer treatment back in March, when she announced she was undergoing 'preventative' treatment, though opted not to disclose which form of the disease she was fighting.

In the months that followed, the public received minimal updates from Kensington Palace regarding the 42-year-old's wellbeing.

In July, however - joined by her daughter, Princess Charlotte, Kate made her first public appearance at this year's Wimbledon tournament, where she received a heartfelt standing ovation from crowds.

And weeks later, a clip of Kate and William congratulating Team GB following the 2024 Olympics was also released.

By September, the Princess had officially returned to work.

Now, following his wife's first few public appearances amid her ongoing health battle, Prince William has issued a heartwarming update.

Appearing in the South African city of Cape Town yesterday afternoon, the 42-year-old answered questions from guests as his team rehearsed that evening's official Earthshot Awards ceremony.

The environmental event was first launched by the future King back in 2021 in the hope of raising awareness of the ongoing climate crisis.

Asked how Kate was getting on following her treatment, William replied: "She's doing really well thanks.

"Hopefully she's watching tonight and cheering me on."

Speaking on her courage throughout the last 12 months - which began with mass speculation surrounding her health after Kate was noticeably missing from numerous public outings - he added: "She's been amazing this whole year and I know she'll be really keen to see tonight be a success."

Last month - ahead of an unannounced appearance to Merseyside to visit the families of the children who were tragically murdered in July's Southport stabbings - Kate broke the news that she's completed her treatment in a heartfelt video with her husband and kids.

In the clip - which subsequently went viral on social media, Kate described the past nine months as 'incredibly tough' for her and her family, adding that the cancer journey is 'complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone'.

"Doing what I can to stay cancer-free is now my focus," she went on.

"Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.

"I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.

"Despite all that has gone before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life."
