Queen Camilla’s health issues revealed as Buckingham Palace issues statement

Queen Camilla’s health issues revealed as Buckingham Palace issues statement

She was forced to withdraw from a number of recent public appearances

Buckingham Palace has released a statement addressing Queen Camilla’s health issues, after the royal was forced to pull out of official appearances.

Camilla, 77, was scheduled to attend the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey last Thursday, but was replaced by the Duchess of Gloucester.

She also pulled out of a Buckingham Palace reception, hosted by The King, for Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

Reports stated that Camilla would be resting at home, with no further details of her health initially given.

The Palace has since issued a statement offering an update on her health, explaining that she had withdrawn from public engagements after receiving medical advice.

The statement said: "Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest.

"With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal.

"She apologises to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result."

The Palace's update comes just weeks after Camilla gave an update on her husband Charles, who revealed earlier this year that he was battling cancer.

Visiting the Royal United Hospitals in Bath back in September to open the new Dyson Cancer Centre there, she spoke to several cancer patients and members of staff - one of whom reportedly asked her about her husband's condition.

According to The Sun, Macmillan Cancer Support worker Suzy Moon asked, 'Is he ok?', to which Camilla reportedly replied, 'Yes, he is doing very well'.

Charles, 75, underwent surgery on an enlarged prostate back in January, with the palace saying at the time that it was a ‘corrective procedure’ and that his condition was benign.

A week following the father-of-two's surgery, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the procedure had bought to light a 'separate issue of concern', revealing that the UK Royal was battling cancer.

"During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted," a statement released at the time read.

"Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer."

It was also revealed back in January that Charles had been receiving care as an outpatient since early February.

Like Camilla, he too was forced to postpone public duties during this period, with the Palace later issuing a statement that read: "His Majesty’s medical team are very encouraged by the progress made so far and remain positive about the King’s continued recovery."
