Many Brits out there are buzzing to pack their suitcases, head to the airport and jet across the world to enjoy a much-deserved holiday.
However, it's clear that there's a whole bunch of organisation and admin that needs to be sorted before your departure day - from luggage tag writing and picking out the right suitcase colour all the way through to your passport.
So, without further ado, here's everything you need to double-check to ensure your passport is still valid before travelling which could end up saving you heaps of money, faff and stress later down the line.

What are the latest passport renewal rules?
Now, first thing's first, you need to make sure your passport is well in-date and valid for flying otherwise you could risk being turned away before your holiday has even begun.
The new passport renewal rules apply to Brits who are travelling to all EU member states, except Ireland.

Additionally, they also apply to several other countries in Europe’s Schengen area, including the likes of Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, and Monaco.
How to check if your passport is valid?
You need to take a look at the date on your passport which needs to have been issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the EU country (date of issue).

It also needs to be valid for at least three months after the day you plan to leave the country you're jetting away to (the date of expiry).
So, in short, have a double-check at the date of issue on your passport to see if it has been issued within ten years of the day you land abroad.
Then, add another three months onto the date that you're planning to leave the country and double-check to see if your passport expires after that.
What next?
Well, if the answer to both these Q's is 'yes' then you're all good and don't need to sort a thing.

However, if there's a 'no' in the midst - you've got two options moving forward.
You can either apply for a passport renewal which can take up to three weeks but can take longer during busy periods or, if you're departure is sooner rather than later, get an emergency travel document.
An emergency travel document is typically ready for collection two working days after an application is paid and received in the UK so bare this in mind ahead of time.
