A psychologist has revealed why a woman ‘burst into tears’ and experienced some alarming symptoms after 'rawdogging' a flight.
The woman who rawdogged a four hour flight suffered some pretty intense symptoms, which stemmed from doing absolutely nothing at all.
Despite sounding like you’re getting up to a bit of funny business sky-high, raw-dogging on a flight means quite the opposite to getting busy.
What is rawdogging, exactly?
It's a viral trend that has seen people challenging themselves to complete a flight without any stimulation at all.

That’s right, once you have boarded the plane, there should be no books, magazines, phones, menus, music, or podcasts.
You can’t even eat or drink, which just sounds completely miserable to me.
However, one woman who lost her rawdogging virginity on a recent flight, said that she experienced a ‘painful ringing’ in her ears after one hour, and a whole host of other symptoms following this.

She described the experience as ‘excruciating’, as well as feeling ‘tired, hungry and angry’ - and we would probably feel the same!
But a psychologist has now revealed exactly why she might have ‘burst into tears’ following the ordeal.
Speaking on behalf of AltIndex - a data analytics platform that provides smart insights and stock alerts for leading travel brands such as Ryanair - psychologist Dr. Lalitaa Suglani explained: “Enduring a flight without any form of entertainment can have a mix of psychological and physiological effects.

“The absence of distractions can lead to increased awareness of discomfort, boredom, and even anxiety as the mind grapples with the void.”
She also listed some possible reasons as to why the unstimulated length of time is so depressing, which includes:
Habitual dependency
The expert explained: “We're conditioned to constantly engage with our devices, whether for work, social interaction, or leisure.

“This habitual dependency makes the idea of sitting through a flight without entertainment seem challenging.”
Fear of boredom
“Many people have a deep-seated fear of boredom, equating it with a waste of time or feeling unproductive or feeling on edge as they are so used to scrolling or swiping on their phones.

“The thought of hours without entertainment can heighten this fear,” the psychologist noted.
Anxiety and restlessness
She added: “For some, particularly those with anxiety, the lack of distraction can lead to increased restlessness and agitation as they are left alone with their thoughts.”
Despite this, Dr. Lalitaa did include that there were some potential benefits of having a totally unstimulated mind from time to time.
However, she noted that to have a real effect, you would need to practise this very frequently, and that a one-off flight probably won’t leave you with any creative revelations!
