He was brought up by Leonel Costa and his family in the Portuguese village of Conqueiros.
Leonel says the pup was going to be kicked out of its home just after he was born as the family already had too many pets.
“Unfortunately, at that time it was considered normal by older people to bury the animals in a hole so that they would not survive,” Leonel explained to the Guinness World Records.

However, when it came time to take Bobi away, the dog had hidden itself away.
Leonel then discovered the dog in a pile of wood and he and his brothers decided to keep him a secret.
His parents eventually found out and 'they screamed a lot and punished us'.
But Leonel says it was 'worth it and for a good reason'.

Bobi was officially certified as the world's oldest dog ever earlier this year.
The Serviço Medico-Veterinário do Município de Leiria (Veterinary Medical Service of the Municipality of Leiria) had him registered all the way back in 1992.
Leonel says the dog was never chained up and was allowed to roam around their property as much as he wanted.

He was also given loads of leftover food, so he definitely ate well during his years.
When he celebrated his 31st birthday earlier this year, more than 100 people turned out to celebrate.
His sad death was confirmed by veterinarian Dr Karen Becker.
She wrote on Facebook: "Last night, this sweet boy earned his wings.

"Despite outliving every dog in history, his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough, for those who loved him.
"Godspeed, Bobi…you’ve taught the world all you were meant to teach."
Bobi's breed typically lives to between 10 to 14 years, so the fact that he's been able to more than double that is seriously impressive.
