A woman was left feeling less than impressed by her boyfriend’s gift for her 30th birthday.
In a post shared on Mumsnet, the anonymous woman said she felt ‘disappointed’ and ‘sad’ by her boyfriend’s ‘lack of effort’.
The pair have been together ‘for only nine months’ however, the Mumsnet user expected something less ‘cheap’.

“I’ve been with my boyfriend for only nine months, so not a long time I know,” she began. “But I feel disappointed and sad by the lack of effort my boyfriend has shown for my birthday.”
The woman then went into detail about why her gifts were not up to par. “He got me a random joke card that had no relevance to us and seemed like something he already had lying around.”
He also bought his girlfriend a necklace however it apparently broke not long after she received it. “He got me a necklace that literally broke after 10 minutes of wearing it,” she added.

“It looked really cheap and he told me it was from Amazon… I found it and it was £12. Like what?? I don’t understand why he has been so cheap?!
“He is very caring and affectionate and tells me everyday he loves me, but this has just felt so disappointment.”
The woman’s dismay didn’t stop at the ‘cheap’ gifts. She was also left disappointed after the couple went out for a birthday meal where ‘he suggested we each pay half’.

Seemingly adding more salt to the wound, the boyfriend is allegedly ‘not struggling financially’ and ‘has thousands in his savings and often treats himself to new clothes, other expenses etc.’
Admitting that she felt ‘crappy’, she also clarified that she does not want to 'upset him’.
Mumsnet users came out in the woman’s defence with several commenters urging the woman to dump her boyfriend.
One person took particular offence to the birthday meal faux pas, writing: “Going Dutch on your birthday meal out is worse than the cheap gift imo. He sounds stingy, nothing worse than a mean man.”

Another Mumsnet user shared: “If this is the effort he goes to your birthday then it is probably not going to get much better. It's more the effort that's the issue not the money and it really doesn't sound like he put any thought or effort into any of it”.
While one short and snappy comment declared: “Gah! He’s a miser. Get rid. You have been warned.”
Attempting to see the bright side of the disgruntled girlfriend’s dilemma, another user wrote: “Some people just don’t do fussing on birthdays. Better to find out now than to be seething on your 40th!”
