Warning: Major Stranger Things spoilers lay ahead...
It’s been over a week since the fourth season of Stranger Things dropped and the internet is awash with chilling fan theories.
And among these include fans’ disturbing theory that Eddie is, in fact, experiment 010 or this link to an iconic 80s horror film.

The latest theory centres around episode seven of Volume One and Henry Creel (also known as 001), the son of Victor Creel who comes across as a recluse... as well as being obsessed with spiders. And it is revealed in the final episode that he eventually becomes this season's baddie, Vecna.
Have a listen to the theory below:
One observant fan took to Twitter to share a clip of his spider obsession and followed it up with an interesting observation about the Mind Flayer.

“So does this explain why the mindflayer is shaped like a spider? [sic]” they wrote.
The theory was met with much praise on the social media website, where fans were quick to comment that it made a lot of sense.
One wrote: “AH YES LOVE THIS THEORY [sic].”
A second added: “this contributes to my theory that vecna could have made most of the monsters in the upside down because that’s was his dream of a new world [sic].”

A third questioned: “would this explain the vines too? like a web covering the upside down that lets the spider know prey has touched it? [sic]"
Meanwhile, a fourth pointed out the potential significance of how the spiders were discovered.
They wrote: “Idk if this means something but Steve also found the spiders [sic].”

However, not everyone was in agreement with the theory.
One critic wrote: “I’m pretty sure the mindflayer was there before vecna bc Someone said if the demogorgan is the mindflayers foot soldier then vecna is his army general [sic].”
A second added: “No because veccna/001 didn’t make the creatures or monsters, eleven only opened a portal to the upside down when 001 turned it to veccna which was [sic].”
Then there was this fan who suggested that the inspiration behind the Mind Flayer was an entirely different work of fiction.

“I don’t think it’s that deep,” they wrote. The mind flayer is clearly inspired by the monsters in The Mist - a Stephen King adaptation (think ST season 2 /1) [sic].”
This chilling theory ties into what the show's creators, the Duffer Brothers, said about the mythology of the creatures in Stranger Things.
They told Netflix: "We know what’s going on in the Upside Down, more or less, but we want it to be unknowable. We want it to be mysterious."
One thing's for sure, if there's any truth to this fan theory, it certainly ties in with the mystery the Duffer Brothers wanted to create!
