Kardashian fans were delighted when the first episode of the family’s hotly anticipated reality series dropped on Thursday.
However, viewers were not prepared for when Kim Kardashian’s sex tape resurfaced within a just few minutes of the show’s first episode.
Watch the clip below:
The Kardashians begins with a mortified Kim, 41, finding out that her son, Saint West, six, almost discovered the sex tape she made with with ex-boyfriend Ray J while innocently playing the game Roblox on an tablet.

A “super inappropriate” message popped-up and hinted at “unreleased footage” from the 2002 tape with a photo of Kim’s crying face meme.
Saint giggles as he shows his mum the crying-meme on his iPad and Kim, who is visibly uncomfortable, takes the iPad away from her son and confides in her sister Khloé.
Kim then contacts her attorney and estranged husband Kanye West for support over the alleged “unreleased footage” from the sex tape. The Skims founder is adamant that no other footage exists.
“The last thing I want as a mum is for my past to be brought up 20 years later,” she says.

In a teary phone call with the Bound 2 rapper, Kim confesses: “I almost died when Saint thought it was funny.”
Khloé tries to comfort Kim by making a joke about the fact the sex tape was also the focus of the first episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians in 2007.
“We’ve come full circle,” she quips.

The reference did not go unnoticed with viewers. One Twitter user praised Kim for standing her ground.
“I love seeing @KimKardashian stand in her power with the Roblox sex tape scandal, refusing to allow herself and her brand to be shamed or clouted off #TheKardashians," they said.
Another noticed the unintentional similarities between both Kardashian shows, tweeting: “Talking about the sex tape in episode 1 of the new show is a full circle moment #TheKardashians.”

Meanwhile, another Kardashian fan tweeted support for Kim. “I hate how people use Kim’s sex tape to bash her. When today sex work is highly appreciated. She made the video while being in love with a man. Someone leaked it when she was gaining success. So glad she’s on top of it. #TheKardashians”.
Someone else noticed Khloé's suggestion that the tape resurfacing again as the family started filming their new show might actually be a positive sign for the success of the series. “Khloe saying it's a good omen that they're talking about the sex tape on episode 1 again has me dead,” one viewer said.

However, some viewers were more critical about the sex tape plot in the first episode. One fan shared: “Lmao if there’s something about the Kardashians, they won’t let us forget about that sex tape. Like...y’all are bringing this to our attention in this first episode lol”.
The Kardashians is available to watch on Disney+ in the UK and Hulu in the US now.
