Warning: Major Trigger Point Spoilers ahead!

Karl revealed himself in a rather dramatic fashion, with a suicide vest strapped around him, unveiling that his real target had been newly elected Labour candidate Ayeesha Campbell-Khan Watch the moment here:
Explaining his reasons for the terror attacks, Karl shared that he had been on a classified mission in Afghanistan that went wrong.
When locals attacked the eight-soldier convoy, Karl ran, leaving his team to die, and the entire operation was covered up by the Ministry of Defence - chaired by Ayesha Campbell-Khan (Salima Saxton).

After being threatened with life in prison under the Official Secrets Act, Karl decided to take matters into his own hands anyway, making the Labour candidate his main target.
While the mechanic managed to charm Lana (Vicky McClure) over the course of the series, many viewers were on to him from the very beginning, and were pretty unsurprised when he exposed himself as the bomber.
What people were surprised about was the fact the Karl managed to get a suicide bomb vest into the building in the first place.

Fans of the series watched as an officer made a point of searching the entire building before Ayesha's campaign event, making sure that things could run smoothly.
Yet somehow, mastermind Karl managed to hide his suicide vest from view in a simple cupboard, strapping it to himself once he entered the building.
Needless to say, fans of the drama series are pretty unimpressed with the Expo squad's work.
