Emma Watson has shared an incredible open letter about how she ‘stepped away from life’ in recent years. After spending her childhood in the spotlight, the Harry Potter star is notoriously private about her personal life and has taken a break in recent years from acting.
Having also walked away from social media, the actor shared a touching update with fans to mark her 33rd birthday.
The Little Women star was incredibly honest with fans and shared intimate details about her life away from the cameras.

In the lengthy post on Instagram, she also joked about starting therapy, learning to surf and becoming ‘well acquainted' with the astrological concept of a Saturn return
"This is 33. Holy moly. Before 29 I hadn’t even heard of a Saturn Return as a concept,” the Harry Potter star wrote, adding: “Let’s just say that now I am well acquainted.”
Continuing, she told her 70.5 million followers: “I stepped away from my life – I learned to surf (badly), I rode some horses (that went better), I did a lot of therapy (YESS therapy!)."
For those of us that didn’t go to Hogwarts, astrologers claim that Saturn returns is the point when the planet returns to the same position as when you were born, which occurs roughly every 29 years.

According to experts, it can be an incredibly painful but transformative time in someone’s life with lots of self-reflection.
This was certainly true for Watson, who also revealed she’d lost her grandparents during this time and adopted a rescue puppy as she grieved.
In the caption, she spoke about her new addition and said: "My brother and I figured out how to make a gin using recycled wine grapes!? (@renaisspirits) I adopted Sofia in Mexico, who seems to be an angel not a dog.”

She also reflected on her loss and picking up the pieces after losing her loved ones, saying: "We filmed a Harry Potter reunion. I said goodbye to my Grandma and Grandpa. I retraced my steps. I started a women’s environmental investment fund.
"I played Pickleball with @sugarrayleonard and I even played golf and then tried to make all of my girlfriends learn too."
However, some parts of Watson’s journey seemed more painful (literally!) than others as she admitted to badly slicing her hand whilst learning to cook.

She admitted: "I cut my thumb nail off on both hands trying to cook for myself and then was only able to do things one-handed for months."
The feminist actor also revealed that she’d felt ‘really sad and really p***ed off about a lot of things’ during this period in her life.
Nevertheless, Watson stated that it hadn’t been all bad as she’d learnt about love and ‘being a woman’ after this extensive hiatus.

Joking about emerging from her ‘Covid cocoon’, the actor said that she was now in a much better place, both physically and mentally.
She wrote: "It took me three years but I have finally figured out a daily practice and can actually keep it for more than a few days in a row. I burned some things down. I eat green things now!"
Despite these dramatic changes, she even made time to pick up additional projects and hobbies.
"I got obsessed with making Squarespace websites. I directed my first commercial,” she revealed, adding: "These pictures were actually taken on my birthday last year, but I wasn’t ready to come out of my Covid Cocoon. Today I feel [butterfly emoji]."
Understandably, fans have loved the actor’s honesty and the post has gone semi-viral since it was shared yesterday.
