Details about how the dress has been preserved since iconic actress and singer wore it to president John F. Kennedy's Madison Square Garden fundraiser in 1962 to sing Happy Birthday were also revealed.
The caption states: "An emotional moment for @KimKardashian as she tried on the Marilyn Monroe 'Happy Birthday' dress for only the second time in history.
"Great care was taken to preserve this piece of pop culture history. With input from garment conservationists, appraisers, and archivists, the garment’s condition was top priority.

"Believe It or Not! no alterations were to be made to the dress and Kim even changed into a replica after the red carpet!"
The dress is stored in a temperature-controlled vault at the Ripley’s museum in Orlando, Florida.
The decision to allow the SKIMS founder to wear the dress to the Met Gala has been met with a mixed reaction online.
While some people have praised Kim and hailed her as the best dressed at the biggest night in fashion and dubbed her the “modern day Marilyn”, others have called the move “disrespectful”.

The Met Gala marks the opening of the annual fashion exhibition held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. This year’s gala was chaired by Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Regina King and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The theme for this year’s exhibition was In America: An Anthology of Fashion, inspired by the Gilded Age.
Kim decided to pay homage to Marilyn because the late actress is “the most American thing you can think of,” she told Vogue.

“For me, the most Marilyn Monroe moment is when she sang Happy Birthday to JFK, it was that look," she added.
The Kardashians star, who attended the gala with her beau Pete Davidson, bleached her hair platinum blond and claimed she lost 16 pounds (7kg) in less than a month to wear the dress.
