ITV has issued a new statement about Phillip Schofield following the former This Morning presenter's admission that he had had an affair with a younger male colleague.
Phillip announced in a statement to the Daily Mail on Friday (26 May) that he had 'misled' his ITV employers and colleagues, his legal team, and his friends about the relationship, which he says was 'unwise, but not illegal'.

In his statement, Phillip had admitted to being engaged in a 'consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning'.
He insisted that, although he met the unnamed man when he as just a teenager, 'it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship'.
Schofield went on to disclose that he had not been 'forced' to admit this information, and that no one had 'issued an injunction' about the relationship.

Instead, he said he had decided to comment on the relationship publicly since his 'recent, unrelated, departure from This Morning fuelled speculation and raised questions which have been impacting [the unnamed colleague].'
Phillip had said that he planned to step down from his last public commitment, presenting the British Soap Awards, and would be 'resigning from ITV with immediate effect.'
In response to the presenter's shocking confession, ITV bosses have said that they felt 'badly let down' by Phillip's 'deceit'.
ITV said in a statement to LADbible: "We are deeply disappointed by the admissions of deceit made tonight by Phillip Schofield.

"The relationships we have with those we work with are based on trust. Phillip made assurances to us which he now acknowledges were untrue and we feel badly let down.
"We accept his resignation from ITV and therefore can confirm that he will not be appearing on ITV as had previously been stated."
Meanwhile, Phillip's former management team YMU Group has also announced that they plan on parting ways with the former This Morning presenter.

"This week, we have learned important new information about our client Phillip Schofield," their statement read.
"These facts contradicted what Phillip had previously told YMU, as well as the external advisors we had brought in to support him.
"As a result, on Thursday we agreed to part company with Phillip, with immediate effect."

The former This Morning presenter had said he was 'painfully conscious' that he has lied to many, including those at ITV and his family.
He also issued a public apology to his wife, Stephanie Lowe, saying: "I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife."
