Zac Efron responded to rumours he had plastic surgery last year after his appearance in a social media video sparked debate.
The Baywatch star took part in Earth Day! The Musical in April 2021 which led to his fans claiming that the star's jawline looked noticeably different and more squared.
Speculation arose around whether he had a procedure done to alter his appearance, however the 34-year-old did not respond until now.

Zac revealed he actually shattered his jaw while running in his house with socks on. The accident involved the actor slipping and hitting his chin on the corner of a granite fountain before passing out.
When he woke up his chin bone was ‘hanging off his face’, he explained in an interview with Men’s Health for the October 2022 cover story.
Zac’s masseter facial muscles – which are in the face and jaw and are one of the primary muscles for chewing - got ‘really big’ during his recovery which led to the High School Musical star teaming up with a physical therapist to help.

While the masseter muscles should work ‘like a symphony’, this was no longer the case for Zac.
"The masseters just grew," he shared. "They just got really, really big."
He explained to the magazine that the accident happened in November 2013, with the injury meaning his face and jaw muscles have had to work extra hard ever since.

Zac was aware of the plastic surgery rumours but he says he wasn’t bothered.
“If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do, I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work,” Zac explained.
Back In 2014, Zac told Jimmy Kimmel during an interview on the latter’s late night show that he had to have his jaw wired shut after slipping and falling at home.
“I was running through my house and I slipped and fell on my face,” he shared.

At the time of the Earth Day! The Musical fans shared their concerns on TikTok, with some social media users speculating about the possible procedures Zac might have had.
However speculating about a celebrity’s appearance can be damaging and Digital Expert Harvey Morton told Tyla that the obsession with a celeb’s changing appearance is ‘unhealthy’.
"When a photograph of Zac Efron appears and his jaw seems slightly squarer, there is a mountain of commentary on whether he has had plastic surgery,” he said.

“It is as if we are permitted to hold an opinion publicly and tactlessly about another human being, forgetting completely their feelings and self-esteem.”
