Adele revealed she quit drinking after being 'borderline alcoholic'

Adele revealed she quit drinking after being 'borderline alcoholic'

Adele has gone sober several times and said she missed booze 'so much'

Among the several bombshell revelations that the Adele has made throughout the duration of her Las Vegas residency is a bold admission the singer made about her drinking habits.

Despite her globally-renowned high-profile as a 16-time Grammy-winning artist, the singer left fans blindsided when she took to the stage last year to confess that her reliance on alcohol reached such an extent that she felt forced to give up booze altogether.

The 'Someone Like You' singer had previously joked about her love of boozy, fun-fuelled nights when catching up with press.

Last year, whilst reflecting on the 2020-2021 period of Covid-19 lockdown, Adele, now 35, told US Vogue she couldn't help herself when it came to buying one particular beverage during her weekly shop.

"My first emergency run at the grocery store was for Whispering Angel [rosé] and ketchup," the mother-of-one reflected at the time.

"Whispering Angel turned me into a barking dog," she jokingly added. "It did not make me whisper."

She also jokingly told attendees at her Vegas shows that she'd sworn off red while touring due to the extreme hangovers she was facing.

"I can't drink red wine ever when I'm singing because I don't know about you, but red wine f***s me up," she laughed. "I cannot handle it."

By October, however, the singer was telling fans she'd forced herself to go cold-turkey altogether when it came to drinking, as she was finding it hard to balance booze with performing night after night.

Speaking to her audience at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace as her Vegas residency was coming to an end, she confessed: "I stopped drinking maybe like three and a half months ago."

The 'Rolling In The Deep' hitmaker added: "It’s boring. I mean, I was literally borderline alcoholic for quite a lot of my 20s, but I miss it so much."

This wasn't the first time that Adele had opened up on her alcohol dependence, however.

Back in 2021, following her divorce from husband Simon Konecki and the heartbreaking passing of her father Mark Evans - who died of bowel cancer - Adele claimed she began to reevaluate her drinking.

"That’s one great way of really sort of getting to know yourself, is just drinking water and being sober as anything," she told interviewer Oprah Winfrey at the time.

Since then, however, it sounds as though the 'Hello' chart-topper has found a means of striking the perfect balance between drinking and enjoyment.

And just before taking a break from her Vegas residency, she toasted her upcoming time off with a cheeky tipple - despite feeling a tad under the weather at the time.

"I'm just going to chill," she told the Daily Mail of her plans. "I'm annoyed as well that I'm sick because this is red wine weather."

"I stopped drinking, but obviously now I'm ready to start again because it is my break."
