‘Absolute scenes’ at BAFTAs as Joe Lycett turns up dressed up as Queen Elizabeth I

‘Absolute scenes’ at BAFTAs as Joe Lycett turns up dressed up as Queen Elizabeth I

The star-studded event took place in London's Royal Festival Hall

The annual BAFTA TV Awards is back once again and it's clear that fans all over have been buzzing to see some of the biggest names on telly strut their stuff down the red carpet.

However, there's one celeb who's really piqued interest - none other than Joe Lycett.

The comedian could be seen with bright orange hair dressed as Queen Elizabeth I and people have been left in stitches over the 'absolute scenes' he caused.

One X user penned: "Joe Lycett actually went through with his promise to attend the BAFTAs dressed as Elizabeth I. Incredible."

A second praised: "I absolutely love that @joelycett has brought his aunties and Don One to the BAFTAS. And is dressed like Queen Elizabeth I."

A third shared: "Winners of 2024 Bafta TV Awards are being announced in London. Stars of the small screen including hosts Romesh Ranganathan & Rob Beckett as well as comedian Joe Lycett, who was dressed Queen Elizabeth after losing a bet gathered the Royal Festival Hall to discover."

"Absolute scenes at the #Baftas," quipped a fourth sharing a snap alongside Joe. "Looking good."

A fifth penned: "Joe Lycett said, 'I will make the BAFTAs my Met Gala'."

"And the best dressed award at the BAFTAs goes to… Joe Lycett as Queen Elizabeth I," congratulated a sixth, while another joked: "I feel sorry for the persons sat behind @joelycett tonight..."

And a final user added: "I hope Joe Lycett wins an award purely so he has to get on stage in that outfit and confuse the heck out of people who haven’t watched Late Night Lycett or don’t follow him on Instagram."

So, why did Joe don the Elizabethan getup?

Well, he quite simply made a promise to wear the costume, after losing a bet with his aunties, Margaret and Pauline.

The star said that if Margaret and Pauline managed to get 200,000 followers on Instagram by a certain date, then he'd attend tonight's show dressed as the Tudor queen.

And it's clear they did exactly that.
