Billie Eilish admits that her rare neurological condition has a major impact on what she chooses to do daily

The 22-year-old Grammy award-winning singer has opened about about the condition

Billie Eilish has admitted that her rare neurological condition has had a major impact on what she chooses to do daily.

The 22-year-old 'Ocean Eyes' singer has been super candid about the condition which is estimated to affect just 2-4% of the entire world's population, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Both Billie and her older brother, Finneas, 26, share the condition as well as their father.

Now, the Cleveland Clinic states that research shows that those with the neurological condition in question often have 'better memory abilities' and they also tend to score higher on tests that measure intelligence.

The condition also has 'clear ties' to creativity, and people with it are more apparently likely to choose creative- or art-based careers.

Famous music artists who reportedly share the same condition as Billie include musical icons like Beyoncé, Duke Ellington, Billy Joel and Mary J. Blige.

Now, Billie has opened up many times about the ultra-rare condition known medically as synaesthesia.

What is synaesthesia?

The NHS explains that synaesthesia is a condition in which normal sensory stimulation triggers unusual sensory responses.

It is two or more of the senses that are normally experienced separately are involuntarily and automatically joined together.

Kind of like a sensory cross-over, the neurological phenomenon is sometimes described by those who have it as having 'wires crossed' in their brain because it activates two or more senses when there's only a reason for one sense to activate.

So, for example, someone with synaesthesia might taste colours, feel sounds, or see shapes when they hear sounds.

What are Billie Eilish's experiences with synaesthesia?

A few years back, Billie brought out her very first fragrance aptly called 'Eilish'.

The scent, which is entirely vegan and cruelty-free, launched back in 2021 and it's clear fans were buzzing to try it out.

Opening up about her brand-new vegan fragrance the pop icon told WWD: "Every choice I make, fashion-wise, hair-wise and musically, I always want things to sound like a certain smell.

"I have a very, very, very strong and long relationship with scent."

She also recently opened up about the condition on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon where she discussed how it affects her career and creative choices.

Talking about what it last like, Billie explained: "For instance every day of the week has a color, a number, a shape.

"Sometimes things have a smell that I can think of, or a temperature, or a texture."

She continued: "All of my videos for the most part have to do with synaesthesia. "All of my artwork, everything I do live, all the colours for each song, it’s because those are the colours for those songs."
