Michelle Obama makes dig at husband Barack as she reveals what marriage is really like

The former First Lady spoke with her brother, Craig Robinson, on their new podcast about the highs and lows of her marriage to Barack

They might appear to adoring fans like a match made in heaven, but Michelle Obama has this week revealed that her marriage to husband Barack isn't always plain-sailing.

In fact, speaking to her brother on her recently-released IMO podcast on Wednesday (12 Mar), the former First Lady actually made some surprising revelations about the realities of being tied down to a politician.

For those in need of a reminder, Michelle and Barack Obama have been married since 1992.

The couple first met whilst working closely alongside one another at a Chicago law firm - where Michelle was assigned as the future-president's mentor - and following a first date at the movies, the rest was history.

In the years that followed, the pair went on to welcome daughters Malia Ann and Natasha ('Sasha') via IVF, and between 2009-17, they served as the President and First Lady of the United States.

Despite having often been dubbed 'couple goals' for directing gushy public statements of affection at one another, 61-year-old Michelle has this week made a brutally honest confession about the realities of marriage - especially in the public eye.

And whilst we're sure it's all love, several of her claims have since been interpreted as light-hearted 'digs' at her Democratic hubby, 63.

The first saw her taking aim at Barack's punctuality, tell her brother and podcast co-host, Craig Robinson, comparing it to that of her father, who was known to be 'ready' an hour before any plan.

"Barack had to adjust to what ‘on time’ was..." Michelle laughed. "You know, I’ve got this husband who, when it’s time to leave, he’s getting up and going to the bathroom.

"And I was like, 'Dude, like, three o’clock departure means you’ve done all that.' It’s like, don’t start looking for your glasses, you know, at the three o’clock departure."

Minutes later, the mother-of-two made another pointed remark about her long-term other-half, recalling him asking what she and her gal pals were 'talking about all day' when they'd come to visit.

Making a comparison to his own lifestyle, she added that Barack will often spend five hours playing golf with his own friends, but won't ever ask them about serious topics - even cancer diagnoses.

"I will have heard that somebody has cancer, and I was like, 'How is X? Did you hear that they had cancer?'," she told listeners.

"He’s like, 'No, we didn’t talk about that. And I’m just like, 'What? You were golfing all day and it never came up? You never asked about our godson, for example… It’s like what were you all doing?'"

Michelle added: "Whereas when I’m with my friends, we are turned, we are physically turned in towards one another, feet-off comfort, sometimes we’re touching, you know, there are tears, and that can go on for hours."
