The Grammys is upon us, and with that comes controversy, starpower and performances that’ll blow crowds away.
However, looking back at last year’s event, we can still clearly recall the moment Miley Cyrus snubbed her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, during her acceptance speech.
There are only a few moments in pop history that really stick with us, and for many, one of those things was when the 32-year-old country-pop singer won Record of the Year for her hit 'Flowers'.

At the time, she thanked her 'mommy' Tish Cyrus, sister Brandi, and her 'love' Maxx Morando. However, it was when she didn’t mention her Hannah Montana cast-mate and father, Billy Ray Cyrus, that people began to rumour that there was a rift. Take a look below:
Miley's cryptic Grammys speech
During her speech, she said: "Not everyone in the world will get a Grammy, but everyone in this world is spectacular. So please don’t think that this is important — Even though it’s very important, right, guys?

"We are very excited. I want to thank everyone who is standing on the stage. I don’t think I forgot anyone, but I might have forgotten underwear. Bye."
Fans on social media were quick to take her forgetfulness as a jab, and wrote online about their rift.
"Omg Miley Cyrus thanked her mom but not Billy Ray Cyrus the rumors are true she so hates him LMAOOO #GRAMMYs," one fan penned on Twitter.
Another wondered: "So… why Miley Cyrus didn’t thank Billy Ray Cyrus but thanked her mom and whole team?"

So, what’s the deal?
A number of events, such as marriage, divorce and Donald Trump's inauguration
Rumours of a rift between Miley and Billy Ray first began after her parents' 2020 divorce, which led to her supporting her mother's controversial relationship and marriage to Australian actor, Dominic Purcell.

Miley then unfollowed Billy Ray on social media after his marriage to singer Firerose (real name Johanna Rosie Hodges), who is 27 years his junior, before the pair eventually divorced.
But sources have now told Page Six that her dad’s controversial Donald Trump inauguration performance sealed the coffin on their relationship.
They explained that the singer hasn’t had a relationship with her father ‘for a long time’ and she also has ‘no interest’ in repairing things.
Trace Cyrus issues a public plea to his father
Miley's brother Trace Cyrus - who was adopted by Billy Ray when he was four - then took to Instagram where he alluded to the headline-hitting performance, also accusing the country singer of being 'not healthy' and needing 'help'.

"Since my earliest memories all I can remember is being obsessed with you and thinking you were the coolest person ever," the Metro Station musician, 35, began.
"I wanted to be just like you. The day you adopted me was the happiest day of my life. Sadly the man I wanted so desperately to be just like I barely recognize now. It seems this world has beaten you down and it's become obvious to everyone but you.
"You may be upset with me for posting this, but I really could care less at this point."
Trace went on to add: "Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you've pushed all of us away.
"Noah desperately has wanted you to be a part of her life and you haven't even been there for her. That's your baby girl. She deserves better. Somehow just like me she still idolizes you though."
So, while it hasn’t been confirmed why exactly Miley and Billy Ray have a rift, there have been a lot of events leading up to it.
