We’ve all experienced a bad date, but one woman probably takes the crown after being left with a £1,200 restaurant bill when her date walked out after polishing off dessert.
Ouch.
The debate about who should foot the bill on a first date will always be a contentious topic. After all, even splitting the bill hardly seems fair if one of you has gone for the lobster and a bottle of champagne, while the other has a salad and isn’t drinking.

There’s no one-size-fits-all solution, but the one thing we can all probably agree is never okay is running off without paying – especially if you’ve racked up a particularly hefty price tag.
That’s what happened to Natalie Joy, the fiancée of TV personality Nick Viall, who has spoken out about her own dating ‘horror story’ on podcast Viall Files – Better Date Than Never.
She was asked about her worst ever first date, and she came THROUGH.
Joy explained: “I went on a date… this guy asked me out on a date maybe 20 times. Finally, I was like ‘sure’.”

When they got to the restaurant, Joy said her date was eager to try out a few different things on the menu and so they ordered ‘one of every appetiser’ and an entrée dish.
She continued: “And then he’s like, ‘It’s time for dessert.’
“And I’m like: ‘Honestly, I’m so stuffed, I’ve never been so full. I am good’. He’s like: ‘No, no… let’s get dessert’.”
Joy told Viall – known for his turns on reality series The Bachelorette, Bachelor in Paradise and The Bachelor - how after they’d eaten the dessert that she never even wanted, her date received a phone call.

After some time passed, she grew suspicious and went to go and look for him – only to find that he’d legged it.
She went on: “And then he gets a f****ing phone call and he does not come back for 20 minutes. And I’m like, ‘I wonder what the phone call’s about.’
“So I get up and go outside and he’s gone.

“I have not seen or heard from that man ever since. He has blocked me on every social media – the bill was literally $1,600.”
She had no choice but to cough up.
Thankfully, now she’s happily engaged to Viall after he popped the question in January.
And just last week, the happy couple also announced they’re expecting their first child together, with Joy writing on Instagram: "Our biggest dream came true."
