Nicole Kidman reveals sad reason why she wakes up 'crying and gasping'

The actress has been battling new feelings in recent years

Nicole Kidman has opened up about the sad reason why she sometimes finds herself waking up 'gasping and crying'.

Being an actress doesn’t mean that you’re immune to human emotions.

The A Family Affair star has been working in the limelight for decades, producing some of the most emotional pieces on screen.

From Moulin Rouge to Practical Magic, she has displayed a great range of what it’s like to be really human and in circumstances which requires strength and durability.

However, in real life, the 57-year-old admitted that there is one thing that keeps her up at night and can leave her ‘crying and gasping’ for air.

Speaking in a new interview with GQ, she shared that she’s ‘open to emotions’ more than ever.

But it’s these emotions which have lead to her thoughts of the future.

“Mortality. Connection. Life coming and hitting you,” she said. “And [the] loss of parents and raising children and marriage and all of the things that go into making you a fully sentient human.”

Kidman added: “I’m in all of those places. So life is, whew. It’s definitely a journey.”

The star continued: “And it hits you as you get older how … it’s a wake-up-at-3-am-crying-and-gasping kind of thing. If you’re in it and not numbing yourself to it. And I’m in it. Fully in it.”

However, it all became more apparent after the death of her father, Antony Kidman, in 2014.

“There’s the mortality aspect of life which, when you start to deal with that, it’s very heavy,” she shared. “When you’re raising children you’re like, 'I gotta stay here. I wanna see all of this. It’s devastating and beautiful and extraordinary'."

Now, she is working through the grieving process of the loss of her mother Janelle Ann Kidman, who passed away in September of this year.

At the time, she had to leave the Venice Film Festival after the news broke, after accepted the Volpi Cup award for Best Actress for her movie Babygirl.

Instead of Kidman, Halina Reijn, the director accepted it and read out Kidman’s news: “Today, I arrived in Venice to find out shortly after that my beautiful, brave mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, has just passed.

“I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina,” the statement continued. “The collision of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken.”

Kidman went on to share her loss at the Los Angeles premiere of Lioness in October.

“I wish my mama was here,” she told the Hollywood Reporter. “That’d be the one thing I’d say. Everything is great with work but I wish my mama was here.”
