Eva Mendes explained why she and Ryan Gosling will never walk the red carpet together

It's officially awards season, and as such, some fans of Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes have been left wondering why we never see the celebrity power couple on the red carpet together.

Even for his hotly-discussed appearance at last year's Academy Awards, the Barbie actor's wife was a no-show. But, why?

Before we get into it, let's not start by hurling accusations about Ryan's and Eva's supposed lack of support for one another.

Because any fan of the pair knows by now this is far from the truth.

Following the chick-flick star's performance of 'I'm Just Ken' at last year's Oscars ceremony, Eva posted a photo on Instagram wearing a similar pink sparkly blazer, joking in the caption: "You took Ken all the way to the Oscar’s, RG.

"Now come home, we need to put the kids to bed."

The Notebook star also had his own tribute in the form of an E-shaped necklace he wore on the big night.

And last year, during the press tour for his action-comedy movie The Fall Guy, the actor took part in an interview for This Morning where he was seen donning a t-shirt with a tribute to his wife in return that had us all swooning.

The t-shirt read 'Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries by Eva Mendez', a reference to his wife's children's book that was announced the month prior.

One fan gushed at the time, 'Love him supporting his wife. Want to see more men wearing shirts with their wives projects/accomplishments front & centre', whilst another added, 'ryan gosling was wearing a t shirt promoting eva mendes new book whilst on this morning… i LOVE them'.

But why do they never show support for one another in a physical sense - i.e. by attending each other's award wins?

Well, despite the two both being household names in the acting world, they have previously expressed on several occasions a wish for a more private life.

In 2023, Eva posted a clip from the 2012 film in which they both starred, The Place Beyond The Pines.

"Magic is Real. We did not meet on set," she wrote. "The magic started way before but here’s a little magic captured on camera."

A fan wrote: "I really hope Barbie will get through the Awards Season just to see you w Ryan. I know, I'm a selfish and probably I dreamer, but I will never stop to dream about it!!"

Mendes kindly responded: "You’re the best! What a cool comment, thank you. But we don’t do those things together.

"Like these photos I’ve been posting, Im [sic] only comfortable posting because it’s already out there."

Eva then followed up to explain further: "By ‘not comfortable’, I mean exposing our very private life that we value. I’m still dying to do another movie with him though…".

Ryan previously opened up to press about his wife's decision to take a step back from acting in 2014 after they welcomed their two daughters, claiming he doesn't take it for granted for one second.

"She is with the girls, and when she works, I stay home with the girls too," he told Extra at the time.

"I couldn’t be here without her."
